Victor A. Nicholas
Lieutenant-Colonel Victor Albert Nicholas, Order of the British Empire, MBE, (4 May 1897 - 1956) was the sixteenth Postmaster General of Sri Lanka, Postmaster General of Ceylon, serving between 1951 and 1956, and the second Ceylonese to hold the post. Victor Albert Nicholas was born on 4 May 1897 in Badulla, the third child of Joseph Richard Nicholas and Rose née Anthony. He received his secondary education at Kingswood College, Kandy. He joined the Sri Lanka Post, Post and Telecommunications Department of Ceylon in 1915, at the age of 18. Following the outbreak of World War I he enlisted in March 1917, serving with the Royal Engineers on the Western Front and in German East Africa. He was discharged from service in January 1920, whereupon he re-joined the Post Department. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire were originally made on the nomination of the United Kingdom, the self-governing Dominions of the Empire (later Commonwealth) and the Viceroy of India. Bambalapitiya is a southern coastal neighbourhood of Colombo, Sri Lanka. The area also known as Colombo 4, spans about along Galle Road. The western boundary of the suburb is the Indian Ocean and it is bordered to the east by Havelock Town, the north by Kollupitiya, and to the south by Wellawatte. A postmaster is the head of an individual post office, responsible for all postal activities in a specific post office. When a postmaster is responsible for an entire mail distribution organization (usually sponsored by a national government), the title of Postmaster General is commonly used. Abdon Ignatius Perera
Abdon Ignatius Perera JP, CBE (30 July 1888 - 5 December 1955) was the first Ceylonese Postmaster General and Director of Telecommunications, serving in the position from 1947 to 1951. Abdon Ignatius Perera was born 30 July 1888 in Colombo to Don Nicholas Perera and Clara née Peiris. Perera was educated at St. Benedict's College, Colombo (1894-1903), where he passed the Cambridge Junior Examination. He passed the first class examination in Telegraphy and the second class examination in the Telephony at the London City and Guilds College. He then joined the Department of Archaeology as a temporary clerk in 1905 and joined the Department of Posts and Telecommunications on 1 February 1906 as a Second Class Post Master in the Department of Posts and Telecommunications. Cinnamon Gardens
Cinnamon Gardens ( si, කුරුඳු වත්ත ''Kurundu Vaththa'', ta, கறுவாத் தோட்டம்) is an affluent neighbourhood in Colombo, Sri Lanka located 3 kilometers south-east from Colombo's centre. Cinnamon Gardens is named from the former cinnamon plantation in this area. In the year 1789, there were of cinnamon trees in the gardens. Wellawatta
Wellawatta is a neighbourhood of Colombo, Sri Lanka. It lies immediately south of Bambalapitiya and is classified as zone 6 within the Colombo Municipal region. The town begins at the old Dutch canal just before the Savoy Cinema and extends south to the same canal that reaches the sea just before the junction at Hospital Road where Dehiwela begins. It is bounded on the west by the waters of the Indian Ocean and extends to Pamankada where Havelock Road forks and meets the Sri Saranankara Road bridge, which stretches over the Dutch canal, extending towards Kohuwala-Hospital Road junction on Dutugemunu Street. Kollupitiya, also known as Colpetty is a major neighbourhood of Colombo, Sri Lanka. The name Kollupitiya comes from the name of a chief from Kandy who had unsuccessfully attempted to dethrone the last king of Kandy.
