Vic Barnhart
Victor Dee Barnhart (September 1, 1922 – April 13, 2017) was an American professional baseball player who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League for parts of three season spanning 1944 to 1946. Born in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of Clyde Barnhart, who had also played for the Pirates. In three seasons in the Major Leagues, he played in 74 games. He was traded to the Brooklyn Dodgers on December 3, 1947, but never took the field with them. Barnhart died on April 13, 2017 at the age of 94. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. Today, shortstops are often able to hit well and many are placed at the top of the lineup. In the numbering system used by scorers to record defensive plays, the shortstop is assigned the number 6. More hit balls go to the shortstop than to any other position, as there are more right-handed hitters in baseball than left-handed hitters, and most hitters have a tendency to pull the ball slightly.
