''Via Mala'' is a 1985 television series, based on the 1934 novel '' Via Mala'' by John Knittel. It was made as a co-production between West Germany, France, Italy and Austria. Via Mala (novel)
''Via Mala'' is a novel by the Swiss writer John Knittel, which was first published in 1934. After the disappearance of a tyrannical sawmill owner in a village in Switzerland, his family is widely suspected of having murdered him. The title ''Via Mala'' refers to the Viamala, a historic route through the Rhine canyon in Switzerland. Literally, it means ''bad path''. All main characters in the novel walk on a ''bad path'', not only the miller Jonas Lauretz, but also his family, guilty or not, and even the judge. The criminal story is based on a case of murder reported from the Obermühle (Upper Mill) in Kirchensittenbach, Bavaria, in 1817. Fritz Eckhardt (born Linz, 30 November 1907; died Klosterneuburg, 31 December 1995) was an Austrian actor, director, and writer. Balthasar Burkhard
Balthasar Burkhard (24 December 1944 – 16 April 2010) was a Swiss photographer who received international recognition for his large-format monochromatic photographic series. Life Born in Bern in 1944, Burkhard was apprenticed to photographer Kurt Blum. After opening his studio in 1965, he was retained as documentation photographer by the ''Kunsthalle Bern'', cooperating closely with curator Harald Szeemann and portraying many artists. This triggered Burkhard's interest in contemporary art. He came to international attention in 1969 through the exhibition of large-format photographs created together with the Bernese artist Markus Raetz, which included a 1:1 scale photograph of Raetz's study. Bruno Dallansky (19 September 1928 – 5 August 2008) was an Austrian actor who was best known for his roles on television and stage. In addition to his film and stage appearances, Dallansky taught acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna from 1965 until 1990. He also headed the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich, Germany from 1979 until 1983. Dallansky was married to actress Judith Holzmeister from 1955 until 1961 and the couple had one child. Dallansky and Holzmeister separated in 1961, but never divorced. Holzmeister died on 23 June 2008. Dallansky died a few weeks later in Vienna (5 August 2008). Georg Marischka (born 29 June 1922 in Vienna; died 9 August 1999 in Munich) was an Austrian actor, screen writer, director and film producer for cinema and television. Life George Marischka was born into the world of film because his father was Hubert Marischka and Ernst Marischka was his uncle. In 1949 he worked for Gustav Ucicky as associate director.
