Veterans Memorial Park (New Castle, Delaware)
The Delaware Memorial Bridge is a dual-span suspension bridge crossing the Delaware River. The toll bridges carry Interstate 295 and U.S. Route 40 and is also the link between Delaware and New Jersey. The bridge was designed by the firm known today as HNTB with consulting help from engineer Othmar Ammann, whose other designs include the Walt Whitman Bridge (which is similar in appearance to each of the Delaware Memorial Bridge spans, except for being a single span with more lanes) and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. It is also one of only two crossings of the Delaware River with both U.S. Highway and Interstate Highway designations, the other being the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. The bridges provide a regional connection for long-distance travelers. While not a part of Interstate 95, they connect two parts of the highway: the Delaware Turnpike ( Interstate 95 in Delaware) on the south side with the New Jersey Turnpike (later Interstate 95 in New Jersey) on the north side. ...

Veterans Memorial Park (Davenport, Iowa)
Veterans Memorial Park is one of four parks located along the Mississippi River in downtown Davenport, Iowa, United States. The other three are Centennial Park, which is immediately to the east of Veterans Park, LeClaire Park and River Heritage Park, which is being developed on the far east side of downtown on land that had been used for industrial purposes. The Riverfront Parkway passes through the south side of the park. History The Davenport City Council narrowly rejected a proposal in October 2010 to name the new park on the east side of downtown as a veterans memorial. Instead they established a task force to find a park location for the memorial. They choose Crescent Park, which was an undeveloped area along the Mississippi River near the Crescent Rail Bridge. The council gave its approval in January 2011. An entrance area to the park with three flagpoles was dedicated on Memorial Day in 2011. Other proposed elements to the park include a high promontory berm, an observa ...

The first component of building the park included preparation of the area, which had served as a landfill years prior. A fundraiser called the "Seekonk Meadows Dinner Dance" was held at the Johnson and Wales Inn in Seekonk on January 16, 2010, in an effort to raise enough money for the parks equipment. The fundraiser was successful, and so the waste relocating, capping and venting the land, drainage work, sub-grades and cover, hard finishes, and loam and seed finishes took place. The final step in the creation of the park was adding a fence along the parks' boundaries, which sepa ...
