Veta Biriș
Veta Biriș (born 11 August 1949) is a Romanian folk music singer. She was born in Veseuș, a village in Jidvei commune, Alba County, in a large family of seven siblings. Biriș moved in 1966 to nearby Jidvei, Căpâlna de Jos and debuted as a singer the following year in a music competition as a representative of the Magyar Autonomous Region, Mureș-Magyar Autonomous Region. Her repertoire mainly consists of a wide variety of folk music and she has released several albums. Among these are ''Așa-i românul'' ("This is how the Romanian is", 1995), ''La aniversare'' ("Anniversary", 1999), ''Oi cânta cu drag în lume'' ("I'll sing with love to the world", 2001), ''Vechi cântece românești'' ("Old Romanian songs", 2007) and ''E vremea colindelor'' ("It's the time of Christmas carol, carols", 2008, together with Ionuț Fulea). Jidvei
Jidvei (, hu, Zsidve, german: Seiden) is a commune in Alba County, Transylvania, Romania, located on the river Târnava. Jidvei is located in the north-western part of Romania, in the Transylvanian Plateau. Jidvei was first mentioned in documents in 1309, but traces of human presence go further back in time. The oldest building in the village is the church, which was originally constructed in the Gothic style but was later modified in 1707 in the baroque style. In the 15th century, a fortification wall was raised around the church, of which the gate tower remains. Jidvei is located in the Târnava wine country, where vineyards have been present since the Iron Age. Winemaking has been an important local industry throughout the history of Jidvei. In the middle age, the doors of the cellars in Jidvei were built to face the road for commercial purposes. Jidvei is currently one of the most important wine producing regions in Romania. Ion Iliescu
Ion Iliescu (; born 3 March 1930) is a Romanian politician and engineer who served as President of Romania from 1989 until 1996 and from 2000 until 2004. Between 1996 and 2000 and also from 2004 to 2008, the year in which he retired, Iliescu was a senator for the Social Democratic Party (PSD), of which he is the founder and honorary president to this day. Iliescu joined the Romanian Communist Party (PCR) in 1953 and became a member of its Central Committee in 1965. Beginning with 1971, he was gradually marginalized by Nicolae Ceaușescu.
