Vestskoven
Vestskoven (literal translation, lit. "The West Forrest") is a 13 km2 forest located in the western suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. History Vestskoven was established in the late 1960s to provide easy access to recreational areas for the rapidly growing population of Copenhagen's western suburbs in accordance with the Finger Plan. The area was landscaped with artificial hills and lakes. The first trees were planted in 1967. Topography Herstedhøje is a group of artificial hills located just north of Herstedøster in Albertslund Municipality. It rises to 67 metres or 30–35 metres above the surrounding countryside. Oxbjerget is an artificial hill situated just north of Hvissinge in Glostrup Municipality in the easternmost part of Vestskoven. Harrestrup Å
Harrestrup Å is an approximately 20 km long stream through the western suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. It rises at Harrestrup Mose in Vestskoven woodland on the border between Albertslund and Ballerup and flows through Damhus Lake and several parks on its way to the Øresund at Kalvebod Beach in Valby Park. Course The stream rises at Mønterne/Herstedhøje just south of Harrestrup Mose and this first, short section is called Rogrøften. Harrestrup Mose is also fed by Ballerup-Skovlunde Skolerende from the north and Bymoserenden from the south. Harrestrup Å then flows east and is joined by Sømose Å from the north before passing under the Vestvolden on its way to the Kagsmose bog which is also fed by Kagsmose Å from the north. Glostrup Municipality
Glostrup Kommune is a suburban municipality (Danish '' kommune'') and town in Region Hovedstaden on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') approx. 10 km west of Copenhagen in eastern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 13.31 km², and has a total population of 23,128 (2020). Its Zip code (''Postnummer'') is 2600. Glacial Erratic
A glacial erratic is glacially deposited rock differing from the type of rock native to the area in which it rests. Erratics, which take their name from the Latin word ' ("to wander"), are carried by glacial ice, often over distances of hundreds of kilometres. Erratics can range in size from pebbles to large boulders such as Big Rock () in Alberta. Geologists identify erratics by studying the rocks surrounding the position of the erratic and the composition of the erratic itself. Erratics are significant because: *They can be transported by glaciers, and they are thereby one of a series of indicators which mark the path of prehistoric glacier movement. Their lithographic origin can be traced to the parent bedrock, allowing for confirmation of the ice flow route. *They can be transported by ice rafting. Ludvig Brandstrup
Ludvig Brandstrup (16 August 1861 – 13 May 1935) was a Danish sculptor. He is remembered above all for his Christian IX statue, Esbjerg, equestrian statue of Christian IX in Esbjerg but was also one of the most competent portraitists of his day. Early life and education Brandstrup was born in Tranekær on the Danish island of Langeland. He was the son of Laurits Christian Frederik Michael Brandstrup (1812–1900) and Johanne Kirstine Fenger (1820–98). Brandstrup attended Sorø Academy before training for five years as a carpenter with Severin and Andreas Jensen in Copenhagen, after which he spent a year studying in the sculptor Vilhelm Bissen's studio in 1884 where he learnt the art of sculpting marble in the Bertel Thorvaldsen, Thorvaldsen style. He then spent a short period at Copenhagen Technical College from where he entered the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1885, graduating in 1888. Ole Rømer
Ole Christensen Rømer (; 25 September 1644 – 19 September 1710) was a Danish astronomer who, in 1676, made the first measurement of the speed of light. Rømer also invented the modern thermometer showing the temperature between two fixed points, namely the points at which water respectively boils and freezes. In scientific literature, alternative spellings such as "Roemer", "Römer", or "Romer" are common. Biography Rømer was born on 25 September 1644 in Århus to merchant and skipper Christen Pedersen (died 1663), and Anna Olufsdatter Storm ( – 1690), daughter of a well-to-do alderman. The Finger Plan ( da, Fingerplanen) is an urban planning, urban plan from 1947 which provides a strategy for the development of the Copenhagen metropolitan area, Denmark. According to the plan, Copenhagen is to develop along five 'fingers', centred on S-train commuter rail lines, which extend from the 'palm', that is the dense urban fabric of central Copenhagen.
