Vestri Women's Basketball
The Vestri women's basketball team, commonly known as Vestri, is a basketball team based in Ísafjörður, Iceland. It is part of the Íþróttafélagið Vestri, Vestri multi-sport club. History The club was founded in 1965 as ''Körfuknattleiksfélag Ísafjarðar'' (KFÍ). In 1969, KFÍ won the Vesturland's group and was slated to face Þór Akureyri (basketball club), Þór Akureyri, which won the Norðurland's group, in a game for the national championship. KFÍ forfeited the game as they could not field a team at the date of the game. The team participated in the top-tier Úrvalsdeild kvenna (basketball), Úrvalsdeild kvenna from 1999 to 2002, advancing to the semi-finals in the 2000–01 Úrvalsdeild kvenna (basketball), Úrvalsdeild playoffs in 2001. It made it into the final four of the Icelandic Women's Basketball Cup, Icelandic Cup in 2000 and 2001. In 2016 KFÍ merged into Íþróttafélagið Vestri and became its basketball sub-division. Íþróttarhúsið á Torfnesi (), known colloquially as Jakinn or Ísjakinn (English: The Iceberg), is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Ísafjörður, Iceland. Jessica Gaspar
Jessica Gaspar (born December 7, 1976) is an American former basketball player. She played college basketball for the University of North Carolina in and later professionally in Iceland where she won multiple awards and accolades. Playing career High school career Gasper attended Dartmouth High School where she played basketball and was a four-time Eastern Athletic League All-Star. She averaged 26.4 points during her senior season. During the post-season, she averaged 31.2 points per game. During her four years at Dartmouth, the team compiled an overall record of 71 wins in 80 games. College career Gaspar played with the North Carolina Tar Heels from 1995–1999, winning the ACC twice and advancing to the NCAA tournament three times (1997, 1998, 1999). Pétur Már Sigurðsson
Pétur Már Sigurðsson (born 15 April 1978) is an Icelandic professional basketball coach and a former player. He is currently the head coach of Vestri. He is the former head coach of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna club Stjarnan and former assistant coach of the Icelandic men's national basketball team. He coached the men's national team during the 2013 Games of the Small States of Europe in the absence of Peter Öqvist. The team finished third with two wins and two losses. Career Pétur helped Skallagrímur reach the 2006 Úrvalsdeild finals, scoring 21 points in the fourth and deciding game against defending champions Keflavík in the semi-finals. Hrafn Kristjánsson
Hrafn Kristjánsson is an Icelandic former basketball coach and player. He was named the Úrvalsdeild Coach of the Year in the 2010–11 season, when he won the Icelandic championship with the KR. As a coach he has also won the Icelandic Basketball Cup two times (2011, 2015) and Icelandic Division I three times (2003, 2005, 2007). As a player he played 139 games in the Úrvalsdeild with KR and KFÍ, winning the national championship in 1990. Playing career Hrafn came up through the junior ranks of KR. Eva Margrét Kristjánsdóttir
Eva Margrét Kristjánsdóttir (born 17 January 1997) is an Icelandic basketball player who currently plays for Haukarand the Icelandic national basketball team. She won the Icelandic championship with Snæfell in 2014 and the Icelandic Cup three times from 2021 to 2023 with Haukar. A two-time Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team selection, she was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year in 2023. Ebony Dickinson (September 8, 1977 – September 29, 2009) was an American professional basketball player. After graduating from St. John's University in 1999 she went overseas and achieved success playing professional basketball in Iceland, Sweden, Greece and China. High school Dickinson played high school basketball for Murray-Wright in her hometown of Detroit, Michigan where she graduated in 1995. During her senior season she averaged 22 points, 14 rebounds, seven steals and five assists per game, leading the Pilots to the PSL championship game, and was named Miss PSL by the Detroit Public School League Coaches Association.
