Verónica (Víctor Yturbe Song)
"Verónica" is a popular song written by Mexican songwriter Carlos Blanco and recorded by Mexican singer Víctor Yturbe "El Pirulí" in 1972. Upon its release, the song had great success in Mexico, where it topped the singles charts. Background and release The song was written by Carlos Blanco, a songwriter from the Mexican state of Puebla, and its original title was "''Güerita''" (which in Mexican slang is the diminutive form of "''güera''", a term that is used to describe a blonde or white-skinned woman). When Blanco showed Yturbe the song, the latter suggested changing its title so as to reference Verónica Castro, a famous Mexican actress; Blanco agreed to the change, and thus Yturbe recorded the song, which was released in 1972 as a single (with the song "''Miénteme''" as the B-side) as well as being included in Yturbe's studio album "''Condición''". Víctor Yturbe
Víctor Yturbe (born Víctor Manuel De Anda Iturbe; May 8, 1936 – November 28, 1987) was a Mexican singer under the stage name " El Pirulí". Career Yturbe was born in Mexico City. In the 1960s, he made his first contact with the artistic world, working as an aquatic clown in a water skiing show in Acapulco. After a spinal injury, he stayed in the Hotel Posada Vallarta in March 1964 where he started to sing professionally in the hotel's bar. Out of this experience came his first compositions, and he soon recorded his first album, entitled ''"Noches en el Posada Vallarta"'', which included the popular track "Puerto Vallarta". His nickname "Pirulí" was because, due to his slim figure, he resembled a pirulí (a type of lollipop famous in Latin America). Bolero is a genre of song which originated in eastern Cuba in the late 19th century as part of the trova tradition. Unrelated to the older Spanish dance of the same name, bolero is characterized by sophisticated lyrics dealing with love. It has been called the "quintessential Latin American romantic song of the twentieth century". Unlike the simpler, thematically diverse ''canción'', bolero did not stem directly from the European lyrical tradition, which included Italian opera and canzone, popular in urban centers like Havana at the time. Instead, it was born as a form of romantic folk poetry cultivated by a new breed of troubadour from Santiago de Cuba, the ''trovadores''.
