Verstancla Glacier
The Verstancla Glacier (german: Verstanclagletscher) is a 2 km long glacier (2005) situated in the Silvretta Range in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. In 1973 it had an area of 1.27 km2. The glacier is located north of the Verstanclahorn. It is parallel to the larger Silvretta Glacier lying a few kilometres north. The Verstancla Glacier gives birth to the river ''Verstanclabach'' which ends in the river Landquart. Glacier
A glacier (; ) is a persistent body of dense ice that is constantly moving under its own weight. A glacier forms where the accumulation of snow exceeds its Ablation#Glaciology, ablation over many years, often Century, centuries. It acquires distinguishing features, such as Crevasse, crevasses and Serac, seracs, as it slowly flows and deforms under stresses induced by its weight. As it moves, it abrades rock and debris from its substrate to create landforms such as cirques, moraines, or fjords. Silvretta Range
The Silvretta Alps are a mountain range of the Central Eastern Alps shared by Tirol, Vorarlberg (both in Austria) and Graubünden (Switzerland). The Austrian states of Tirol and Vorarlberg are connected by a pass road (Silvretta Hochalpenstraße at 2032 m). The majority of the peaks are elevated above three thousand metres and are surrounded by glaciers. Thus, the area is also known as the "Blue Silvretta". Verstanclahorn
The Verstanclahorn is a mountain of the Swiss Silvretta Alps, located between Piz Buin and Piz Linard in the canton of Graubünden. The mountain has a pyramidal shape with the northern face lying above the Verstancla Glacier. The smaller glacier ''Vadret da las Maisas'' lies on the south side. The mountain is located on the ridge between the central Graubünden (north) and the Engadine valley (south), also separating the basins of the Rhine and Inn River. Landquart (river)
The Landquart is a river of Switzerland in the canton of Grisons and a right tributary of the Alpine Rhine. It is formed by the confluence of the two mountain streams, ''Vereinabach'' and '' Verstanclabach'', both originating from glaciers in the Silvretta Alps.
