Versing
Versing are an indie rock group from Tacoma, Washington, later residing in Seattle. They have released two albums and an LP. History The group met at KUPS, the student radio station at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. The initial lineup was Daniel Salas on guitar and vocals, Graham Baker on guitar, and Max Keyes on drums. Six months later, Kirby Lochner joined on bass guitar. Lochner had previously played bass in Sun Eater, a stoner metal band for which Salas had played drums. Versing debuted in 2016 with the EP Nude Descending, released on Youth Riot Records. The title was inspired by Marcel Duchamp's painting ''Nude Descending a Staircase'' and by the comic strip '' Calvin and Hobbes'', which had made several references to the painting. The band's first full-length album, ''Nirvana'', was released in 2017 on Decency Den Records. The same year, they toured with Vancouver, BC indie rock group The Courtneys. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock, or alt-rock, is a category of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1970s and became widely popular in the 1990s. ''Paste'' is a monthly music and entertainment digital magazine, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, with studios in Atlanta and Manhattan, and owned by Paste Media Group. The magazine began as a website in 1998. It ran as a print publication from 2002 to 2010 before converting to online-only. ''Stereogum'' is a daily Internet publication that focuses on music news, reviews, interviews, and commentary. The site was created in January 2002 by Scott Lapatine. ''Stereogum'' was one of the first MP3 blogs and has received several awards and citations, including the PLUG Award for Music Blog of the Year, ''Blender''s Powergeek 25, and ''Entertainment Weekly''s Best Music Websites. Sub Pop is a record label founded in 1986 by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman. Sub Pop achieved fame in the early 1990s for signing Seattle bands such as Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney, central players in the grunge movement. The Courtneys
The Courtneys is a Canadian indie rock band formed in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2010. The band is composed of Sydney Koke (bass, vocals), Courtney Loove (guitar, vocals), and Jen Twynn Payne (drums, lead vocals). History Sydney Koke and Jen Twynn Payne met in their hometown of Calgary, Alberta in 2007. After becoming housemates, Twynn Payne began learning to play drums with then-boyfriend Patrick Flegel. Koke was impressed with her abilities and suggested they start a band, which became Puberty, a post-punk group with guitarist Nicole Brunel. Puberty disbanded when Koke enrolled in a neuroscience PhD program at Duke University. Twynn Payne moved to Vancouver shortly after to play drums in Makeout Videotape. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Stoner Metal
Stoner rock, also known as stoner metal or stoner doom, is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of doom metal with psychedelic rock and acid rock. The genre emerged during the early 1990s and was pioneered foremost by Kyuss and Sleep. Characteristics Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo and features a heavily distorted, groove-laden bass-heavy sound, melodic vocals, and "retro" production. Due to the similarities between stoner and sludge metal, there is often a crossover between the two genres. This hybrid has traits of both styles, but generally lacks stoner metal's laid back atmosphere and its usage of psychedelia.
