Vernon Winstanley
Vernon Winstanley (10 October 1861 – 10 January 1938) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early days Winstanley was born in Pilley, Yorkshire, to parents Thomas Winstanley and his wife Jane (née Wells). He was educated in Pilley and before the age of twelve was working in a coal mine. Queensland Legislative Assembly
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the ''Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). Carina Heights is both a hill and a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Carina Heights had a population of 6,732 people. It is located by road south-east of the Brisbane GPO. Geography Carina Heights borders Camp Hill, Carina, Carindale, Mansfield, Mount Gravatt East, and Holland Park. Carina Heights (the hill) is in the north-east corner of the suburb () rising to above sea level. Pine Mountain is in the south of the suburb () rising to above sea level. Morningside is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Morningside had a population of 10,481. Geography It is located east of the CBD, and borders Cannon Hill, Norman Park, Seven Hills, Balmoral, and Hawthorne. There are many older-style weatherboard and chamferboard homes in this area as well as modern units and townhouses. History Morningside is said to be named after a local estate belonging to David Longlands. The name of the estate itself likely referred either to the Scottish town, or to the estate's location on the eastern side of Brisbane. It is also said to be named for the sight of the morning sun catching the banks of the river. The area was first settled by Europeans in the early 1870s. Government Whip
A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline in a legislature. This means ensuring that members of the party vote according to the party platform, rather than according to their own individual ideology or the will of their donors or constituents. Whips are the party's "enforcers". They try to ensure that their fellow political party legislators attend voting sessions and vote according to their party's official policy. Members who vote against party policy may "lose the whip", being effectively expelled from the party. The term is taken from the "whipper-in" during a hunt, who tries to prevent hounds from wandering away from a hunting pack. 1932 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 11 June 1932 to elect the 62 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The election was the first electoral test of the Country and Progressive National Party government led by Arthur Edward Moore, and was held in the midst of the Great Depression. Labor had previously held office from 1915 until 1929. The election resulted in the defeat of the one-term Moore government by the Labor Party, led by William Forgan Smith. Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 27 April 1912 to elect the 72 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The election was the first for the recently formed Liberal government of Digby Denham, who had been premier since 7 February 1911. The opposition Labor Party was led by David Bowman, who had been Labor leader since 15 April 1907. Results Denham and his government were returned to office despite a swing to Labor of almost 10 percent. Charters Towers is a rural town in the Charters Towers Region, Queensland, Australia. It is by road south-west from Townsville on the Flinders Highway.
