Vernon Gale Buchanan ( ; born May 8, 1951) is an American businessman and politician serving as the U.S. representative for Florida's 16th congressional district since 2013. A member of the Republican Party, he first entered Congress in 2007, representing Florida's 13th congressional district until redistricting. His district is anchored by Bradenton. Buchanan is the only Republican member from Florida on the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over tax policy, international trade, health care and Social Security. Fonk (June 5, 1955 – May 22, 2006) was a Seattle entrepreneur best known for founding Vern Fonk Insurance, a high-risk auto insurance agency with seventeen offices, servicing Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Vern Fonk Insurance is well known in the Pacific Northwest region for its humorous and off-color television commercials, which generally appear on local late-night television and have run since 1994. Vernon Arnold Haugland (May 27, 1908 – September 15, 1984) was a reporter and writer for the Associated Press. As a war correspondent, he experienced and documented World War II events in person. During an assignment to New Guinea, he was a passenger in a bomber that ran out of fuel. He had to parachute out at 13,000 feet. Landing safely, he then spent 43 days in the jungle living off the land. He nearly starved to death, but for his heroism, General Douglas MacArthur awarded him the Silver Star medal. He was the first civilian to receive the medalawarded at the time exclusively to members of the United States Armed Forces. Vern Miller (December 22, 1928 – June 11, 2021) was an American attorney, politician, and law enforcement officer who served as the Kansas attorney general from 1971 to 1975. Early life and education Miller was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1928. At three years old, his family moved to a 10-acre farm in the city, raising cows and selling milk. Vern Sheridan Poythress (born 1946) is an American philosopher, theologian, New Testament scholar and mathematician, who is currently the New Testament chair of the ESV Oversight Committee. He is also the Professor of New Testament Interpretation at Westminster Theological Seminary and editor of Westminster Theological Journal.
