Vermilion Parish School Board
Vermilion Parish School Board (VPSB) is a school district headquartered in Abbeville, Louisiana, United States. It was established in 1876. The district serves Vermilion Parish and operates most public schools there. However, public schools serving Delcambre are located in Vermilion Parish but are operated by the Iberia Parish School System. Vermilion Parish is headed by Superintendent Jerome Puyau. Puyau's leadership style has been called intimidating and in January 2018 a teacher was handcuffed during a public discussion of his pay raise. Leadership The Superintendent of Vermilion Parish, Jerome Puyau, worked in Vermilion Parish before becoming the district's supervisor of maintenance in August 2006. Erath, Louisiana
Erath is a town in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 2,114 at the 2010 census, and 2,030 at the 2020 population estimates program. It is part of the Abbeville micropolitan statistical area. History Erath is named after August Erath (18 March 1843 - 11 September 1900) who emigrated from Switzerland to New Orleans in 1860 and was a bookkeeper in the breweries. He moved to New Iberia in 1876 and erected a brewery there. Erath was later mayor of New Iberia and began to develop land in the Erath area. Although August Erath never lived in Erath, he was close to railroad officials, which brought forth a great business venture for him. Later, Erath built a seltzer water factory in New Iberia and an ice plant in Abbeville. In 1884, he started a hardware business and purchased land located in this area. Maurice, Louisiana
Maurice is a town in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 964 at the 2010 census and 2,118 for the 2020 Census. It is part of the Abbeville micropolitan statistical area. History The village, originally called ''"Mauriceville"'', derives its name from its founder Maurice Villien. Villien, a native of Savoy, France, came to America in 1855 and sold goods in New Orleans, New Iberia and Milton. His wife had land holdings there and they established a home and grocery store. On May 29, 1889, the site, on which the church and rectory in Maurice were to be built, was donated by Villien. The town was incorporated on December 27, 1911 and Joseph Villien, Maurice's son, became mayor until 1928. Today, Joseph Street leads to the old home. Title IX
Title IX is the most commonly used name for the federal civil rights law in the United States that was enacted as part (Title IX) of the Education Amendments of 1972. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or any other education program that receives funding from the Federal government of the United States, federal government.
