Vermilion County Bobcats
The Vermilion County Bobcats were a professional ice hockey team in Danville, Illinois, that began play in the 2021–22 season as a member of the Southern Professional Hockey League. They ceased operations effective February 9, 2023. History Danville has a history of hosting hockey teams going back to the Danville Dashers of the semi-professional Continental Hockey League (1972–1986), Continental Hockey League of the early 1980s, and the junior Danville Wings of the United States Hockey League between 1994 and 2004, and another Danville Dashers (FPHL), Danville Dashers of the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) between 2011 and 2020. The FPHL Dashers elected to not participate in the 2020–21 season due to the ongoing restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 9, 2021, the operators of the David S. Danville, Illinois
Danville is a city in and the county seat of Vermilion County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 33,027. As of 2019, the population was an estimated 30,479. History The area that is now Danville was once home to the Miami, Kickapoo, and Potawatomi tribes of Native Americans. Danville was founded in 1827 on of land donated by Guy W. Smith and donated by Dan W. Beckwith. The sale of lots was set for April 10, 1827 and advertised in newspapers in Indianapolis, Indiana and the state capital of Vandalia. The first post office was established in May of the same year in the house of Amos Williams, organizer of Vermilion and Edgar Counties and a prominent Danville citizen. Mike Watt (ice Hockey)
Michael Watt (born March 31, 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played for four different National Hockey League teams. Playing career Mike Watt was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft in the second round, 34th overall. He spent the next three seasons playing in the NCAA for Michigan State University. He joined the Oilers for the 1997–98 season. Watt appeared in 14 games for the Oilers in 1997-98, recording 3 points. On June 18, 1998, he was traded to the New York Islanders in exchange for Eric Fichaud. Watt would play 120 games for Isles. He was placed on waivers and claimed by the Nashville Predators on May 23, 2000. After only 18 games with the Preds, he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers for Mikhail Chernov on May 24, 2001. Vermilion County is a County (United States), county in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Illinois, between the Indiana border and Champaign County, Illinois, Champaign County. The Evansville Thunderbolts are a minor league ice hockey team in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The team plays at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. The team replaced the Evansville IceMen of the ECHL. History During the 2015–16 season, the City of Evansville and the owner of the ECHL's Evansville IceMen, Ron Geary, were unable to agree to a new lease for the IceMen to continue to operate out of the Ford Center. The Ford Center is a multi-use indoor arena in downtown Evansville, Indiana with a maximum seating capacity of 11,000. It officially opened in November 2011 and is mainly used for basketball, ice hockey, and music concerts. It is home to the Evansville Thunderbolts minor league hockey team in the Southern Professional Hockey League and the Evansville Purple Aces men's basketball team, representing the University of Evansville. David Ayres
David Ayres (; born August 12, 1977) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender and current Head Coach of the Port Perry Lumberjacks of the Provincial Junior Hockey League. He achieved fame as the first emergency backup goaltender to record a National Hockey League (NHL) win. Ayres is also the oldest NHL goaltender to win his regular season debut. While working as a building operator for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ayres became the Carolina Hurricanes' emergency goaltender during a 2020 game against the Maple Leafs. The Quad City Storm is a professional minor league hockey team to begin play in the 2018–19 season as a member of the Southern Professional Hockey League. The team is based in the Quad Cities area of Illinois and Iowa, with home games at the Vibrant Arena at The MARK in Moline, Illinois.
