Verkhny Zub
Verkhny Zub (russian: Верхний Зуб; cjs, Амзас-Таскыл;Сибирская Советская энциклопедия. Том первый. А - Ж p. 96 kjh, Тигір тізі) is a peak in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia. It is the highest point of the federal subject. The name of the mountain in the Khakas language ''"Тигір тізі"'' means "heavenly tooth". The mountain is part of the Kuznetsk Alatau State Nature Reserve, a protected area. Description Verkhny Zub is a high mountain located in the Kuznetsk Alatau, South Siberian System. Nival Zone
Altitudinal zonation (or elevational zonation) in mountainous regions describes the natural layering of ecosystems that occurs at distinct elevations due to varying environmental conditions. Temperature, humidity, soil composition, and solar radiation are important factors in determining altitudinal zones, which consequently support different vegetation and animal species. Altitudinal zonation was first hypothesized by geographer Alexander von Humboldt who noticed that temperature drops with increasing elevation. Alpine tundra is a type of natural region or biome that does not contain trees because it is at high elevation, with an associated harsh climate. As the latitude of a location approaches the poles, the threshold elevation for alpine tundra gets lower until it reaches sea level, and alpine tundra merges with polar tundra. The high elevation causes an adverse climate, which is too cold and windy to support tree growth. Alpine tundra transitions to sub-alpine forests below the tree line; stunted forests occurring at the forest-tundra ecotone are known as ''Krummholz''. A (; from the Latin word ') is an amphitheatre-like valley formed by glacial erosion. Alternative names for this landform are corrie (from Scottish Gaelic , meaning a pot or cauldron) and (; ). A cirque may also be a similarly shaped landform arising from fluvial erosion. The concave shape of a glacial cirque is open on the downhill side, while the cupped section is generally steep.
