Verdin Baronets
The Verdin Baronetcy, of the Brocklehurst in the Parish of Davenham and of Wimboldsley in the Parish of Middlewich, both in the County Palatine of Chester, was a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 24 July 1896 for Sir Joseph Verdin. In 1895, he donated money to set up the Verdin Technical Schools in Winsford (later closed and developed into the present The Winsford Academy) and Northwich, Cheshire. The title became extinct on his death in 1920. Baronetage Of The United Kingdom
Baronets are a rank in the British aristocracy. The current Baronetage of the United Kingdom has replaced the earlier but existing Baronetages of England, Nova Scotia, Ireland, and Great Britain. Baronetage of England (1611–1705) James I of England, King James I created the hereditary Order of Baronets in England on 22 May 1611, for the settlement of Ireland. He offered the dignity to 200 gentlemen of good birth, with a clear estate of Pound sterling, £1,000 a year, on condition that each one should pay a sum equivalent to three years' pay to 30 soldiers at 8d per day per man (total – £1,095) into the King's Exchequer. The Baronetage of England comprises all baronetcies created in the Kingdom of England before the Act of Union 1707, Act of Union in 1707. Sir Joseph Verdin, 1st Baronet
Sir Joseph Verdin, 1st Baronet, (4 January 1838 – 28 December 1920) was a British salt industrialist, philanthropist and the Justice of the Peace, Deputy Lieutenant and County Alderman for the County of Cheshire. He was elevated to the Baronetage on 24 July 1896 and knighted in 1897. He later became Justice of the Peace for Herefordshire and High Sheriff in 1903. Biography Joseph Verdin (later Sir Joseph Verdin) was born in Witton, Northwich, Cheshire on 4 January 1838 and lived at The Brockhurst; a Regency house in spacious grounds at Leftwich, Northwich, Cheshire with his brother Robert and sister Mary. He was a prominent figure in Northwich's affairs and was a Justice of the Peace, Deputy Lieutenant and County Alderman for Cheshire. Winsford
Winsford is a town and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, on the River Weaver south of Northwich and west of Middlewich. It grew around the salt mining industry after the river was canalised in the 18th century, allowing freight to be conveyed northwards to the Port of Runcorn on the River Mersey. The Winsford Academy
The Winsford Academy (simply referred to as Winsford Academy and formerly The Winsford E-ACT Academy) is an 11–16 Mixed-sex education, mixed secondary school with Academy (English school), academy status in Winsford, Cheshire, England. It was established in September 2010 following the amalgamation of the two predecessor schools; Verdin High School and Woodford Lodge High School. It is located on the campus of the former Verdin High School on Grange Lane that was established in 1970 and was initially one component of a two-campus school, with history spanning from its original founding as Verdin Technical School in 1895.
