José Enger Veras Romero (born October 20, 1980) is a Dominican former professional baseball relief pitcher. He was signed by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization in 1998. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in 2006 with the New York Yankees. He also played for the Cleveland Indians, Florida Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros. Playing career Minor leagues Veras was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1998. He rose through the Tampa Bay minor league system, mostly as a starter. Veras struggled when he reached AAA, and was converted to a relief pitcher. He was released after the 2004 season. He pitched for the Texas Rangers AAA affiliate, the Oklahoma RedHawks, in 2005. Quilvio Alberto Veras Perez (born April 3, 1971) is a Dominican former professional baseball second baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Florida Marlins, San Diego Padres, and Atlanta Braves. Veras has coached in the minor leagues for the Kansas City Royals organization following the conclusion of his playing career. Playing career Signed by the New York Mets as an amateur free agent in 1989, Veras was named to the Triple-A All-Star Game while playing for the Norfolk Tides in 1994. He was subsequently traded to the Florida Marlins for Carl Everett in November 1994, and made the Marlins' Opening Day roster, debuting at the major league level on April 25, 1995. In 1995, Veras' rookie season, he led Major League Baseball with 56 stolen bases. At the conclusion of the season, Veras ranked second behind Chuck Carr for the franchise record in stolen bases. Wilton Andrés Veras (born January 19, 1978) is a former backup third baseman in Major League Baseball who played from 1999 to 2000 for the Boston Red Sox. Listed at 6' 2", 198 lb., he batted and threw right-handed. He once held the Taiwanese Chinese Professional Baseball League single season record for hits, attaining 176 in 2009 for the Sinon Bulls.
