Vera Pagava
Vera Pagava (February 27, 1907 – March 25, 1988; in Georgian ვერა ფაღავა) was a Georgian artist based in Paris. Early life Vera Pagava was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. Her father was a lawyer; her mother was an educator. She moved to Berlin, Germany with her family in 1920, just months before Georgia became part of the Soviet Union. In 1923, they join the Georgian community in exile in France and settle in Montrouge. Vera Pagava studied decorative arts and painting first at the Arts et Publicité School, at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, then at André Lhote Studio. From 1932 to 1939, she studied under Roger Bissière in the Academie Ranson. There, she met artists who would become her most faithful friends, such as Nicolas Wacker, Jean Bertholle, Maria Helena Vieira Da Silva, Arpad Szenes, Etienne Martin, Roger Hilton, Jean Le Moal, Guidette Carbonell, François Stahly. A signature (; from la, signare, "to sign") is a handwritten (and often stylized) depiction of someone's name, nickname, or even a simple "X" or other mark that a person writes on documents as a proof of identity and intent. The writer of a signature is a signatory or signer. Similar to a handwritten signature, a signature work describes the work as readily identifying its creator. A signature may be confused with an autograph, which is chiefly an artistic signature. This can lead to confusion when people have both an autograph and signature and as such some people in the public eye keep their signatures private whilst fully publishing their autograph.
