Vera Frenkel
Vera Frenkel D. Litt (born November 10, 1938) is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto. Her installations, videotapes, performances and new media projects address the forces at work in human migration, the learning and unlearning of cultural memory, and the ever-increasing bureaucratization of experience. Vera Frenkel was born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, lived in England during her childhood and resided in Canada for her adult life. Frenkel graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from McGill University in 1959, then pursued further studies in Montreal under Arthur Lismer and Albert Dumouchel. She has exhibited in solo and group shows in Canada and internationally since the early 1970s. Jonathan Shaughnessy is a Canadian curator in the field of contemporary art. In 2022, he was made Director, Curatorial Initiatives at the National Gallery of Canada. He is also an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Visual Arts at University of Ottawa. Career Jonathan Shaughnessy received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History from Concordia University in 2001 and his Masters of Communications from Carleton University in 2004. Shaughnessy has worked with numerous Canadian and international artists. As Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, he curated ''One, Some, Many: 3 Shows by Carsten Höller'' at Shawinigan Space in Shawinigan, Quebec in 2007. Gershon Iskowitz
Gershon Iskowitz (1919 – January 26, 1988) was a Canadian artist of Jewish background originally from Poland. Iskowitz was a Holocaust survivor of the Kielce Ghetto, who was liberated at Buchenwald. The circumstances of his early life—the trauma of the Holocaust and the uncertainty of the immediate postwar period, followed by immigration and adaptation to Canada—provide a lens through which to understand and appreciate his work. His early figurative images represent his tragic observed and remembered experiences while his later luminous abstract works represent his own unique vision of the world. Iskowitz's work does not easily fit into contemporary schools and movements, but it has been characterized as hard-edge, minimalist, abstract expressionist, and action painting.
