Ethel Venton
Ethel Venton (1891 – February 1988) was an English secularist, Labour Party councillor and animal welfare activist. She was the first female president of the National Secular Society, from 1971–1972, having previously served as a vice-president. Biography Ethel Johnstone was born in the East End of London, and married Laurence (Laurie) Venton (died 1957) in 1915. Labour party activism During the 1930s, Venton served as a Labour Party councillor in West Ham and was a member of committees concerned with hospitals and child welfare. Secularist activism Venton joined the National Secular Society and was a friend of Chapman Cohen, serving as a vice-president of the Society for some years. When, in 1971, long-serving president David Tribe unexpectedly decided not to stand again, Venton was elected his successor. Harley Venton (born December 28, 1952) is an American actor, originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Biography After graduating from the University of North Dakota and the University of Minnesota, Venton moved to New York City, where he first became known for playing the role of attorney Derek Colby on the long running CBS soap opera, ''Guiding Light'' from 1980 to 1982. While still appearing on ''Guiding Light'' he was also a standby in the original Broadway production of ''Crimes of the Heart''. In 1983, Venton relocated to California permanently, and shortly thereafter, began making frequent appearances on episodic television programs. Richie Venton (born 1953) is a Scottish trade unionist and political activist. As of 2018, he is one of two Scottish representatives on the National Executive Council of the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW) and the national trade union organiser of the Scottish Socialist Party. A former Militant organiser and a founding member of the SSP, he was a high-profile activist in the Scottish independence referendum campaign and spoke at a number of public meetings and debates. Venton, Maryland
Venton is an unincorporated community in Somerset County, Maryland, United States. It consists of a small number of farms and homesteads around Venton Road, and is the home of All Saints Church at Monie and Panther's Den, both of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. Geography Venton is a rural community with Maryland Route 363 (locally known as Deal Island Road) acting as the primary road throughout. The community is roughly at the halfway point between Princess Anne and Oriole, as well as a mile north of the Manokin River's mouth into the Chesapeake Bay. Demographics The US Census groups Venton with the city of Princess Anne, a census district which houses a population of 11,437 in 2020.
