Ivan Venning
Ivan Howard Venning (born 26 December 1945) is an Australian politician and was the Liberal Party member of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1990 until 2014. He did not re-contest his seat at the 2014 state election. Venning was one of five children and the eldest son to Howard and Shirley Venning. Howard himself entered state parliament at the 1968 election and served for 11 years. Venning attended Crystal Brook Primary School and Prince Alfred College in Adelaide, and worked on the family farm until 1966, when he was called up for National Service, serving in the Royal Australian Artillery as a gunner, operator and batman to the Commanding Officer III Battery. Venning also served for 10 years in local government, and is a Justice of the Peace. Venning was elected to parliament at the 1990 Custance by-election. John Venning
John Venning (1776–1858) was an English merchant, and a philanthropist interested in prison reform in Russia, where he was in business. Life Born at Totnes, Devon, on 20 May 1776, he was the son of Walter Venning, a merchant, by his wife Mary Ann. He was educated at Totnes grammar school, and at age 14 was placed in the counting-house of Messrs. Jackson & Co., a firm of Russia merchants in London. Venning went to St. Petersburg in 1793, and made as successful career there as a merchant. His interest in the condition of Russian prisons was aroused by his brother Walter Venning; and in 1819, on the foundation of the St. Petersburg Society for the Improvement of Prisons, he became its treasurer. After his brother's death in 1821, he visited prisons in Sweden, Germany, France, and England. Ralph Venning
Ralph Venning (c. 1621 – 10 March 1673 or 1674) was an English nonconformist Christian. Life The son of Francis and Joan Venning, he was born in Devon, perhaps at Kingsteignton, about 1621. He was the first convert of George Hughes, the puritan vicar of Tavistock. He was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he was admitted as a sizar on 1 April 1643, graduated B.A. 1646, and proceeded M.A. 1650. Venning held a lectureship at St Olave's Church in the parish of Southwark St Olave, where he had a reputation as a preacher of charity sermons. He collaborated in Southwark with William Cooper; in 1654 he was pastor of a gathered church there. Ejected by the Uniformity Act 1662, Venning became a colleague to Robert Bragge (1627–1704), pastor of an independent congregation at Pewterers' Hall, Lime Street, Fenchurch Street, and held this charge till his death. Walter Venning
General Sir Walter King Venning (17 January 1882 – 19 June 1964) was a British Army officer and administrator who served in both World Wars. Known for his excellency as an administrator, he served as Quartermaster-General to the Forces from 1939 to 1942 and Director General of the British Supply Mission in Washington, D.C. from 1942 to 1945. Military career Venning was educated at Allhallows and Clifton College, followed by the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Venning was commissioned into the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry in 1901. He saw service with West African Frontier Force from 1907 to 1910. He saw active service in the First World War, earning the Military Cross in the King's 1915 Birthday Honours. He was promoted to deputy assistant adjutant general at the General Headquarters of the British Expeditionary Force, and then to Assistant Adjutant General at the War Office.
