Velyka Novosilka settlement hromada () is a hromada of Ukraine, located in Volnovakha Raion, Donetsk Oblast. Its administrative center is the town of Velyka Novosilka. It was formed in 2020, and has a total population of 18,710. During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, on 4 July 2022, President of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Serhiy Dmytrovych Yashchenko as head of a military administration of the hromada. A hromada ( uk, територіальна громада, lit=territorial community, translit=terytorialna hromada) is a basic unit of administrative division in Ukraine, similar to a municipality. It was established by the Government of Ukraine on 12 June 2020. Similar terms exist in Poland (''gromada'') and in Belarus (''hramada''). The literal translation of this term is "community", similarly to the terms used in western European states, such as Germany ('' Gemeinde''), France (''commune'') and Italy (''comune''). History In history of Ukraine and Belarus, hromadas appeared first as village communities, which gathered their meetings for discussing and resolving current issues.
