Velhartice
Velhartice (german: Welhartitz) is a municipality and village in Klatovy District in the Plzeň Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 800 inhabitants. The historic centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. Administrative parts Villages of Braníčkov, Chotěšov, Drouhavec, Hory Matky Boží, Jarkovice, Konín, Nemilkov, Radvanice, Stojanovice and Tvrdoslav are administrative parts of Velhartice. Geography Velhartice is located about south of Klatovy and south of Plzeň. It lies in the Bohemian Forest Foothills. The highest point is at above sea level. The Ostružná River flows through the municipality. History The first written mention of the Velhartice settlement is from 1318. However, the Gothic Velhartice Castle was built already in 1290–1310 by Bušek the Elder and Bušek the Younger, who later became known as Lords of Velhartice and became chamberlains of Emperor Charles IV.
