Vejen
Vejen with a population of 10,009 (1 January 2022) is the main town in Vejen Municipality, Denmark. Geography The town is situated in the Danish region of Syddanmark and is a railway town at the railway between the cities of Kolding and Esbjerg. Vejen Municipality
Vejen Municipality is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region of Southern Denmark on the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 817 km2, and has a total population of 42,742 (2020). Its mayor is Egon Fræhr, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The municipality is part of Triangle Region and of the East Jutland metropolitan area, which had a total population of 1.378 million in 2016. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Vejen. One of the attractions of the area is the Vejen Art Museum. Vejen Art Museum
Vejen Art Museum ( da, Vejen Kunstmuseum) is an art gallery in Vejen Municipality in the south of Jutland, Denmark. It specializes in works from the end of the 19th century in styles including Symbolism (arts), Symbolism and Art Nouveau. Created in 1924 to house the works of sculptor and ceramist Niels Hansen Jacobsen (1861–1941), it also displays works by Einar August Nielsen (1872–1956) Jens Lund (1871–1924), Thorvald Bindesbøll (1846–1908), Harald Slott-Møller (1864-1937) and many others. The original museum building was designed by the local builder, Niels Ebbesen Grue (1879-1937). The museum has been expanded several times, the first time in 1938 and again in 1959. The gallery corridor was inaugurated in 1975. Niels Hansen Jacobsen was most noted for creating the once controversial sculpture, ''Trold, der vejrer kristenblod''. Niels Hansen Jacobsen
Niels Hansen Jacobsen (September 10, 1861 – November 26, 1941) was a Danish sculptor and ceramist. He is most famous for creating the once controversial sculpture, '' Trold, der vejrer kristenblod''. The name of the statue is taken from a story in Norse folklore where the hero hides in the troll's castle. Thereafter, whenever the troll enters the castle, he cries: "I smell a Christian man's blood!" Biography Niels Hansen Jacobsen was born and grew up on a farm in Vejen. He was the son of Carl Peter Jacobsen (1819-1903) and Anna Kirstine Hansen (1822–91). He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen between the years 1884-1888. At the Academy of Art, he received drawing lessons from Frederik Vermehren and Carl Bloch, while the sculptor Theobald Stein taught anatomy and Vilhelm Bissen in modeling. Ingrid Vang Nyman (21 August 1916 – 13 December 1959) was a Danish illustrator noted for her work on the Pippi Longstocking books of which she was the original illustrator. Despite the worldwide fame of her Pippi illustrations, Vang Nyman did not receive as much recognition from the publication as author Astrid Lindgren, and remains fairly unknown. Pippi Longstocking
Pippi Longstocking ( sv, Pippi Långstrump) is the fictional main character in an eponymous series of children's books by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. Pippi was named by Lindgren's daughter Karin, who asked her mother for a get-well story when she was off school. Pippi is red-haired, freckled, unconventional and superhumanly strong – able to lift her horse one-handed. She is playful and unpredictable. She often makes fun of unreasonable adults, especially if they are pompous and condescending. Her anger comes out in extreme cases, such as when a man mistreats his horse. Pippi, like Peter Pan, does not want to grow up. She is the daughter of a buccaneer captain and has adventure stories to tell about that, too.
