"Vegetables" (early versions spelled as "Vega-Tables") is a song by American rock band the Beach Boys from their 1967 album ''Smiley Smile''. Written by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks, it was one of the last tracks recorded for the unfinished album ''Smile'' and was briefly projected to be that album's lead single. Like other tracks on ''Smiley Smile'', the finished arrangement was more stripped-down than the version conceived for ''Smile''. The song was partly inspired by Wilson's obsession with physical fitness in the late 1960s. In a contemporary article, he stated, "I want to turn people on to vegetables, good natural food, organic food. Health is an important element in spiritual enlightenment. ''The Smile Sessions'' is a compilation album and box set recorded by American rock band the Beach Boys, released on October 31, 2011 by Capitol Records. The set is the follow-up to ''The Pet Sounds Sessions'' (1997), this time focusing on the abandoned recordings from the band's unfinished 1966–1967 album ''Smile''. It features comprehensive session highlights and outtakes, with the first 19 tracks comprising a hypothetical version of the completed ''Smile'' album. Heroes And Villains
"Heroes and Villains" is a song by the American rock band the Beach Boys from their 1967 album ''Smiley Smile'' and their unfinished ''Smile'' project. Written by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks, Wilson envisioned the song as an Old West-themed musical comedy that would surpass the recording and artistic achievements of "Good Vibrations". The single was Brother Records' first release and failed to meet critical and commercial expectations, although it was a hit record, peaking at number 12 in the U.S. and number 8 in the UK. Brother Records, Inc. (BRI) is an American holding company and record label established in 1966 that owns the intellectual property rights of the Beach Boys, including "The Beach Boys" trademark. Michael Vosse
Michael Vosse (May 20, 1941 – January 20, 2014) was an American journalist and A&M Records publicist. He is best known as assistant to Brian Wilson during the formation of the Beach Boys' Brother Records and the recording of the album ''Smile'' (1966–67). His work also included limited time serving as a television producer, and narrator. Background Vosse's father was a man who printed one of the first books in the United States about the drug LSD. Early in his professional life, Vosse was a television production assistant who acted as a liaison between record companies, musicians, other artists, and "the underground". In college, he was friends with David Anderle, who later became the first head of the Beach Boys' company Brother Records. The Vejtables
The Vejtables were an American rock band from Millbrae, California, United States. They recorded for the Autumn label and found limited success with such songs as " I Still Love You" and a cover version of Tom Paxton's "The Last Thing on My Mind". Lead singer Jan Errico also played drums for the group's recordings, making her one of the relatively few female drummers at the time. The Vejtables began their career playing bars and nightclubs along El Camino Real on the San Francisco Peninsula, even though they were still in high school at the time.
