Vectis Radio
Vectis Radio is a community radio station in Newport on the Isle of Wight. The station launched as an online-only station on 23 January 2010 and began broadcasting on FM on 4 November 2017. Vectis Radio transmits on FM from Newport Golf Club. History Vectis Radio was founded in 2010 when Ian Mac created a studio for broadcast from The Quay Arts Centre in Newport. Described as a "broom cupboard", the team of presenters, less than ten in number, then moved to locations such as St Georges Park and studios in Crocker Street and West Street, Newport respectively. They moved into their current home at The Riverside Centre in Newport in 2013. The station's slogan fits inline with their community outreach, as a station 'for the people, by the people'. Newport, Isle Of Wight
Newport is the county town of the Isle of Wight, an island county off the south coast of England. The town is slightly north of the centre of the island, and is in the civil parish of Newport and Carisbrooke. It has a quay at the head of the navigable section of the River Medina, which flows northwards to Cowes and the Solent. In 2020 it had an estimated population of 26,109. The Quay Arts
The Quay Arts Centre is located at the head of the River Medina, in Newport in the centre of the Isle of Wight. It is the island's leading art gallery and venue for live events. The complex features three art galleries, a crafts shop, a 134 capacity theatre, conferencing facilities and a cafe and was fully refurbished in 1997 by architect Tony Fretton. The Quay Arts owns and operates Jubilee Stores, also located on Newport Quay. History The Quay Arts was first proposed in 1974 by a painter Anne Lewington and graphic designer Nigel Lewington, who proposed the idea of a building to house an arts centre for the island. St Georges Park was an association football stadium in Newport on the Isle of Wight. The ''Isle of Wight County Press'' is a local, compact newspaper published every Friday on the Isle of Wight. It had an audited circulation of 23,006 copies, compared to a local population of 140,500. The paper saw a drop in circulation of 13,657 between December 2009 and December 2017 (37.25%). In December 2020 the paper published an article saying that sales remained above 15,000 copies. The paper had been owned locally from its foundation until July 2017, when it was taken over by Newsquest Media Group. The Community Radio Awards are an accolade bestowed upon creatives in the community sector of broadcast radio in the United Kingdom. The awards showcase the work of community radio volunteers.
