Vaux-le-Moncelot () is a commune in the Haute-Saône department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. Its inhabitants are the Vauxlemonçois. Geography Vaux-le-Moncelot includes a communal forest, with an area of 80 hectares, made up of 77% of pedunculate oaks, 14% of hornbeam, 7% of ash trees, less than 3% of other hardwoods and douglas. It is operated by the National Forestry Office. The town is crossed to the west by the Jouanne stream. Blason is a form of poetry. The term originally comes from the heraldic term "blazon" in French heraldry, which means either the codified description of a coat of arms or the coat of arms itself. The Dutch term is Blazoen, and in either Dutch or French, the term is often used to refer to the coat of arms of a chamber of rhetoric. History The term forms the root of the modern words "emblazon", which means to celebrate or adorn with heraldic markings, and "blazoner", one who emblazons. Gy, Haute-Saône
Gy () is a commune in the Haute-Saône department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. History In 1389, a dispute arose over the rights to mint coins between the Duke of Burgundy, and the Archbishop of Besançon Guillaume de Vergy. The Bishop excommunicated the duke and several companions. In response, the Duke of Burgundy gave siege to the fortresses of Noroy and the castle of Gy. However, the Archbishop escaped via an underground passage and found refuge in Avignon where he excommunicated the count of Burgundy. By 1801, the population of the town had reached 2,695, and peaked about a decade later. Vesoul
Vesoul () is a commune in the Haute-Saône department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté located in eastern France. It is the most populated municipality of the department with inhabitants in 2014. The same year, the Communauté d'agglomération de Vesoul which covers 20 municipalities together had inhabitants while the Urban area of Vesoul which includes 78 municipalities, had inhabitants. Its inhabitants are known in French as ''Vésuliens''. Built on top of the hill of La Motte in the first millennium under the name of ''Castrum Vesulium'', the city gradually evolved into a European commercial and economic center. At the end of the Middle Ages, the city experienced a challenging period beset with plagues, epidemics, and localized conflict. Cassini Map
The Cassini Map or Academy's Map is the first topographic and geometric map made of the Kingdom of France as a whole. It was compiled by the Cassini family, mainly César-François Cassini (Cassini III) and his son Jean-Dominique Cassini (Cassini IV) in the 1700s. It was on a scale of one line to 100 toises, i.e. 1/86,400. The map was, for the time, a real innovation and a decisive technical advance. It is the first map to be based on a geodesic triangulation. Four generations of the Cassini carried out the work, taking more than 6 decades to complete. The map does not precisely locate dwellings or the boundaries of swamps and forests, but the level of precision of the road network represented is such that by superimposing satellite photos onto map sheets of France, spectacular results are obtained.
