Steve Vaus
Steve Vaus (also known as Buck Howdy; born April 7, 1952) is an American recording artist and politician who was elected mayor of Poway, California in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. In 2020, he ran for a position on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, losing narrowly to Joel Anderson. Early life and education Vaus was born in Los Angeles. As a child, he lived on a cattle ranch in Grants Pass, Oregon and in Westchester County, New York. After graduating from Eisenhower College in Seneca Falls, New York, Vaus relocated to San Diego to be closer to his parents. Career Music Vaus primarily records country music and country music for children. He is also known for his Christmas recordings including ''The Stars Come Out for Christmas'' series. Vaus established "Carols by Candlelight" in 1990, a charity fundraiser for various charities serving children including Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego which has become a 32-year San Diego tradition. Thomas Vaus
Thomas Vaus (also de Vaus, Vause) was a 15th-century Scottish royal official and cleric. He was a graduate of the University of Paris, being admitted there as a Bachelor ''ad eundem'' in 1445, graduating as a Licentiate in 1447.Dowden, ''Bishops'', p. 369. At some stage he completed an M.A., and bore the title of "Master". His brother Martin Vaus, later Dean of Ross, was at Paris with him. He became Keeper of the Privy Seal of Scotland and secretary of King James II of Scotland. On 8 May 1456, he was provided to succeed James Inglis as Dean of Glasgow Cathedral. In the following year, Vaus was provided to bishopric of Galloway, vacant on the expected translation of Thomas Spens to the bishopric of Aberdeen on 21 November 1457. Unfortunately for Vaus, Spens' translation to Aberdeen was not effective, and while Spens was indeed successfully translated to Aberdeen in the following year, it was Ninian Spot, not Vaus, who on 15 December 1458 got the new provision to Galloway. Alexander Vaus
Alexander Vaus ''Vause, de Vaus(died after 1450) was a late 14th century and 15th century Scottish prelate. Said to have been the younger son of one Patrick Vaus (died 1392), he apparently held "church livings" in Galloway as early as 1421. He is found in possession of the precentorship of Dornoch Cathedral, seat (''cathedra'') of the diocese of Caithness, when a papal mandate from Avignon Pope Benedict XIII, 25 July 1398, authorised his appointment as Archdeacon of Caithness: To William de Gerland and Thomas de Edname, canons of Caithness, and the official of Caithness. George Vaus
George Vaus (died 1508) was a Scottish prelate of the late 15th and early 16th century. Career Possessing a master's degree, he became a parson of Wigtown, and on 9 December 1482, he was provided the bishopric of Galloway. He was consecrated by 9 October 1483, when he appeared before the lords auditors on behalf of his nephew, Patrick Vaus, the future Prior of Whithorn, for whom George was tutor. Patrick was involved in a suit concerning certain lands, against Sir William Stewart of Dalswinton and his wife, Euphame, who was Patrick's grandmother. The suit ended in Patrick's favour. On 13 March 1503/4, George Vaus was one of the bishops in Parliament. In 1504, he became Dean of the Chapel Royal at Stirling, a position which King James IV of Scotland had recently decided to attach permanently to the bishops of Galloway.
