Vassås is a small village in the municipality of Bindal in Nordland county, Norway. It is located along the Tosen arm of the Bindalsfjorden, just north of the Vassås Bridge which connects the village to the larger village of Terråk. The village of Åbygda lies about to the southeast. Vassås Church
Vassås Church ( no, Vassås kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bindal Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Vassås. It is one of the two churches for the Bindal parish which is part of the Sør-Helgeland prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in an Churches in Norway#Floor plan, octagonal style in 1734 using plans drawn up by the architect Nils Ryjord. The church seats about 250 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1432, but the church was likely built around the year 1250. Not much is known about the medieval stave church, but it likely had a small nave and Choir (architecture), choir. In 1615, a new nave was built and the old nave was incorporated into the choir. Bindal is a municipality in the Helgeland region in the extreme southwest part of Nordland county, Norway. The administrative centre is the village of Terråk. Terråk is the administrative centre of the municipality of Bindal in Nordland country, Norway. The village is located in the eastern part of the municipality, along the shore of the Sørfjorden arm of the Bindalsfjorden. Helgeland is the most southerly district in Northern Norway. Generally speaking, Helgeland refers to the part of Nordland county that is located south of the Arctic Circle.
