Vassenden Church
Vassenden Church ( no, Vassenden kyrkje) is a chapel of the Church of Norway in Sunnfjord Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Vassenden. It is an annex chapel for the Ålhus parish which is part of the Sunnfjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, concrete church building was built in a modern, fan-shaped design in 2002 by the architect Per W. Skarstein. The chapel seats about 400 people. History As early as the 1920s, the people of Vassenden were desiring a church of their own in their village. In 1930, a cemetery was built in Vassenden, but no church. Finally, by the year 2000, financing was finally in place and approval for a church was given. Per W. Skarstein was hired as the architect and Karl Russøy was the lead builder. Sunnfjord is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Førde. Other villages in the municipality include Naustdal, Sande, Vassenden, and Skei. The municipality is the 27th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Sunnfjord
Sunnfjord ( en, the southern fjord - in contrast to Nordfjord) is a traditional district in Western Norway located in Vestland county. It includes the municipalities of Askvoll, Fjaler, the southernmost parts of Kinn, Sunnfjord, and the southernmost parts of Bremanger. It covers an area of about and has a population (2016) of 43,324–about 8% of the population of Vestland county. The central geographical characteristic of the Sunnfjord region are the fjords: Dalsfjorden and Førdefjorden. The list of churches in Bjørgvin is a list of the Church of Norway churches in the Diocese of Bjørgvin which includes all of Vestland county in Norway. The list is divided into several sections, one for each deanery (; headed by a Provost (religion), provost) in the diocese. Administratively within each deanery, the churches are divided by municipalities each of which has their own church council () and then into parishes () which have their own councils (). Each parish may have one or more Parish church, local church. Historically, the diocese has had many deaneries, but the number of deaneries has been reduced in recent years. Ole Hagesæther
Ole Danbolt Hagesæther is a Norwegian theologian with the Church of Norway. He was born on 3 October 1941 in Bergen, Norway, and he served as the Bishop of the Diocese of Bjørgvin from 1994 until his retirement in 2008. Hagesæther is the son of theologian Olav Hagesæther. Hagesæther received his theological education from the MF Norwegian School of Theology in Oslo, and he graduated with his Cand.theol. degree in 1965. He served as a priest for a total of 41 years; with the last 13 years as Bishop. His farewell church service as a bishop was held in the Bergen Cathedral on 30 November 2008. He began his career as a substitute priest for the Diocese of Bjørgvin, filling in wherever needed from 1967–1968. Then from 1969 until 1971 he was a chaplain in the parish of Sunndal.
