Varsinais-Suomi (constituency)
The Varsinais-Suomi constituency (Finnish: ''Varsinais-Suomen vaalipiiri'', Swedish: ''Egentliga Finlands valkrets'') is a Finnish constituency. It covers the administrative region of Southwest Finland, with a population of 450,968 (). Varsinais-Suomi elects 17 members to the Parliament of Finland. The constituency's profile is urban, centred on the cities of Turku and Salo. The largest party in elections since 1999 has been the National Coalition Party. Constituencies Of Finland
There are thirteen constituencies in Finland, nowadays called electoral districts by the Finnish Parliament. (The English word "constituency" is confusing due to its various meanings.) The citizens of each electoral district elect from 6 to 35 MPs (members of parliament), depending on the population of the district, but 05 Åland only elects one. The boundaries of the electoral districts are based on the province division in use from 1634 to 1997 and has remained basically the same since the first parliamentary election in 1907. In 1939, the constituency of Northern Oulu was divided between the constituencies of Lapland and Oulu. The constituency of Southern Oulu was renamed to Oulu in the process. After the Continuation War, the electoral districts of Eastern and Western Viipuri, which lost much of their territories to the Soviet Union, were united to the new constituency of Kymi. Ville Niinistö
Ville Matti Niinistö (born 30 July 1976) is a Finnish politician who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. He is a former member of parliament, former chairperson of the Green League and served as Minister of the Environment from 2011 to 2014, and a member of the city council of Turku. Anne-Mari Virolainen (born 5 December 1965) is a Finnish politician of the National Coalition Party who has been a member of the Parliament of Finland since 2007, representing Finland Proper. Ilkka Kantola
Ilkka Tapani Kantola (born 17 March 1957) is a Finnish politician and Lutheran minister. He has been a Social Democratic member of the Parliament of Finland since 2007. Previously he served as Bishop of Turku. Life Kantola was born in Rymättylä, Finland. He graduated as Doctor of Theology from the University of Helsinki in 1994. He served as General Secretary of the Archdiocese of Turku from 1994 to 1998 and then as Bishop of the Archdiocese. Annika Anita Lapintie (née Hiltunen, born 18 March 1955) is a Finnish Left Alliance Member of Parliament (1995–2019) and Member of Turku City Council (1989–2012).
