Vars is a compact rural community in Cumberland Ward in the east end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. South Nation River
The South Nation River is a river in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It springs from forests and marshes located north of Brockville and it flows northeast to empty into the Ottawa River north of Plantagenet. Shows the river's course highlighted on a topographic map. Its watershed covers . This river is called the "South Nation River" to distinguish it from a river in Quebec north of the Ottawa River called the Petite-Nation River or ''rivière Petite-Nation''. The names of both rivers are derived from the French name for the native people of this area, the Weskarini. The area surrounding the river, originally covered with white pine, is now mainly used for agriculture. The river drains an almost flat plain, and its lack of gradient makes it prone to flooding. Carlsbad Springs is a rural community on Bear Brook in Cumberland Ward in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; Prior to amalgamation in 2001, the community was on the border between Gloucester and Cumberland. Russell is a police village that is part of Russell Township in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located immediately east of Ottawa, the city limits of which are just over 2km west of Russell. Ottawa's downtown core is about 40km (25mi) northwest of Russell. The 2016 Census stated that the community had a population of 4,464, making it the second largest community in the township of Russell (Russell's neighbour to the east, Embrun, is the largest community in Russell Township). Cumberland, Ontario (community)
Cumberland is an unincorporated village on the Ottawa River in Cumberland Ward, in the city of Ottawa. It was part of the historic Township of Cumberland, and was originally part of Russell County, joining the Region of Ottawa-Carleton in the 1960s. In 1999, the township became the short lived City of Cumberland which amalgamated into the City of Ottawa in 2001. While the community of Cumberland was located in the City of Cumberland, it only made up a small percentage of the population of the city. Cumberland is bounded by Regional Road 174 and the Ottawa River to the north, Colonial Road to the southeast, Innes Road to the southwest, and Trim Road to the west. Bear Brook (Ontario)
Bear Brook (french: ruisseau Bear) is a small stream in the municipalities of Clarence-Rockland and The Nation, United Counties of Prescott and Russell, and the city of Ottawa in eastern Ontario, Canada. It forms in the fields and forests just north of Edwards, and flows in a mostly eastern direction to its mouth as a left tributary of the South Nation River. Communities along the brook include Edwards, Carlsbad Springs, Bearbrook, Cheney, and Bourget. History In the mid 19th century, the Bear Brook was used by loggers for floating timber to sawmills, a few of which operated in Carlsbad Springs from 1854 to 1905. It was also used by settlers for transportation to their homesteads. However the brook was too small and dry in the summer, and its use for transportation was quickly discontinued upon completion of Russell Road.
