Varney Samuel "Varn" Anderson ( – ) was a Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the Indianapolis Hoosiers and the Washington Senators. Professional career Early minor league years Anderson played professionally at least as early as 1887 for the minor league Milwaukee Brewers. He split the season between the Minneapolis Millers and St. Paul Apostles of the Western Association. Indianapolis Hoosiers At the age of 23 years Anderson broke into the major leagues with the Indianapolis Hoosiers. In just one season, , Anderson pitched just two games going 0-1 with three strikeouts with a 4.50 ERA in 12 innings pitched. Washington Senators In Anderson played and managed the non-affiliated Burlington Hawkeyes. For the next three seasons there is no record of Anderson playing for any major league or minor league team. Varney Monk
Varney Monk (born Isabel Varney Desmond Peterson; 18 January 1892 – 7 February 1967) was an Australian pianist and composer, best known for writing the musicals '' Collits' Inn'' (1932) and ''The Cedar Tree'' (1934). ''Collits' Inn'' was described by the ''Sydney Morning Herald'' as "an Australian opera". From families of Scottish heritage and musical ability, her father was a solicitor. Soon after her birth in Bacchus Marsh, the family moved to Tasmania. Monk's mother died when Monk was eleven, and her father died in 1929. During her career she wrote over 150 songs. Her first song was published at age thirteen, and by 1934, Monk had won the best song in an Australian Radio Competition with 'Some distant day', and the 1933 Broken Hill Jubilee Song Competition. Varney Parkes
Varney Parkes (4 June 1859 – 14 May 1935) was an Australian politician, architect and son of Henry Parkes. Life and career Parkes was born in the Sydney suburb of Ryde, the seventh child of Henry Parkes and Clarinda Varney. He attended public schools and then The King's School in Parramatta before working at the Bank of New South Wales and the Colonial Architect's Office. On 21 March 1883 he married Mary Cameron Murray, but she died only five months later. On 24 December 1884, Parkes married Mary's older sister Isabella, with whom he had three surviving children. Parkes worked as an architect at Liverpool and Canterbury, and in partnership with C.H.E. Blackmann (1880–1885). He was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1885 as the member for Central Cumberland. He left the Assembly in 1888 but was re-elected for East Sydney in 1891, switching to Canterbury in 1894. He served until 1900 and then a second term from 1907 to 1913 as a Liberal. In 1895 he ...
