__NOTOC__ Variety Jones is a restaurant in Dublin, Ireland. History Opened in December 2018 by head chef Keelan Higgs and his brother Aaron, the restaurant takes its name from Variety Jones (Roger Thomas Clark), one of the founders of the online market Silk Road; Higgs' brother Aaron once worked in a Thailand bar that belonged to Clark. It is located in The Liberties, across from John's Lane Church. Variety Jones received a Michelin star in the 2020 Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland. Thomas Street () is a street in The Liberties in central Dublin, Ireland. History The street is named after the church of St. Thomas, founded in 1175 near St. Catherine's church. The founder was William FitzAldelm, deputy and kinsman of King Henry II. The church was dedicated to Thomas Beckett (St. Thomas the Martyr), who had recently been murdered in his cathedral at Canterbury by followers of the king. The church became a rich and powerful monastery, which controlled the Liberty of Thomas Court and Donore. In 1539 it was dissolved with all the monasteries by Henry VIII. Variety Jones (aka Cimon) and Smedley (Smed) Charger are pseudonyms of individuals reported to have been closely involved with the founding of the darknet market Silk Road. Involvement According to security researcher Runa A. Sandvik, Variety Jones joined Silk Road in 2011 as a marijuana seed vendor, opposed to the war on drugs. Working closely with Ross Ulbricht, they were to act as a penetration tester, financial advisor and mentor, and was the person who suggested the "Dread Pirate Roberts" title Ulbricht used. According to seized chat logs, Jones was also the one to suggest the first alleged murder for hire, though it did not actually take place. Smedley joined the site as a coder following the Gawker user influx as a relatively highly paid employee.
