Variation Of Trusts Act 1958
The Variation of Trusts Act 1958c 62 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that governs the courts' ability to vary the terms of trust documents. Prior to the 1950s, the courts were willing to approve "compromise" agreements as to what terms meant, not only when they were disputed but also for the benefit of certain parties, such as minors. In 1954, the House of Lords decided in '' Chapman v Chapman'' that this would no longer be permitted, creating a gap between the rights of trusts under the Settled Land Act 1925 (which could be altered if there was a flaw) and those trusts that were not (which were affected by the ''Chapman'' decision). As a result, following a report by the Law Reform Committee, Petre Crowder introduced the Variation of Trusts Bill to Parliament, where it was given the Royal Assent on 23 July 1958, and came into force as the Variation of Trusts Act 1958. Petre Crowder
Frederick Petre Crowder, QC (18 July 1919 – 16 February 1999) was a British Conservative Member of Parliament and barrister. Crowder was the son of Sir John Crowder, a Conservative Member of Parliament and predecessor as MP for Finchley of Margaret Thatcher. He was educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford just as his father was before him. He served in the Coldstream Guards from 1939, in North Africa, Italy and Burma, attaining the rank of Major. He became a barrister, called by Inner Temple in 1948. He was appointed Recorder of Gravesend in 1960, chairman of the Hertfordshire Quarter sessions in 1963 and became Queen's Counsel in 1964. Sir Robert Edgar Megarry, PC, FBA (1 June 1910 – 11 October 2006) was an eminent British lawyer and judge. Originally a solicitor, he requalified as a barrister and also pursued a parallel career as a legal academic. He later became a High Court judge and served as Vice-Chancellor of the Chancery Division from 1976 to 1981. Afterwards he served as Vice-Chancellor of the Supreme Court from 1982 until his retirement in 1985. A prolific legal writer, he is known for such works as ''The Law of Real Property'', ''Lectures on the Town and Country Planning Act 1947'', and ''A Manual of the Law of Real Property'', as well as a series of legal miscellanies. Ruislip-Northwood (UK Parliament Constituency)
Ruislip-Northwood was a borough constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament from 1950 to 2010 that elected one member (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It was centred on the districts of Ruislip and Northwood in the London Borough of Hillingdon. The seat returned each of three Conservatives who stood in turn. Its narrowest majority was 17.3% in 1997, over the Labour Party candidate. History This represented the northern half of the earlier Uxbridge constituency which was divided into two following house-building in the area in 1950.
