Varghese Paul
Father Varghese Paul Chollamadam (31 May 1943 – 10 April 2021) was a writer, journalist, translator and Jesuit priest from Gujarat, India. Born in South India, he was ordained a priest in 1977. He had written 53 essay books and edited a Catholic magazine ''Doot'' for 14 years. He had served on various posts in several press organisations including some which he had founded. Biography Father Varghese Paul was born on 31 May 1943 in Enanalloor, a village now in Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. He joined Jesuits of Gujarat on 8 June 1964. He studied theology at Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. He was ordained a priest at Church of the Gesù in Rome on 21 June 1977. He graduated in Gujarati literature. He studied journalism in London School of Journalism. He had served as the president of Gujarati Lekhak Mandal. Christianity is India's third-largest religion with about 27.8 million adherents, making up 2.3 percent of the population as of the 2011 census. The written records of the Saint Thomas Christians state that Christianity was introduced to the Indian subcontinent by Thomas the Apostle, who sailed to the Malabar region in the present-day Kerala state in 52 AD. Oru Sankeerthanam Pole
''Oru Sankeerthanam Pole'' () is a 1993 Malayalam novel written by Indian novelist and writer Perumbadavam Sreedharan. Set in the city of Saint Petersburg, it deals with the life of the Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky and his love affair with Anna Grigoryevna Snitkina who would later become his wife. First published in September 1993 it broke Malayalam publishing records in 2005 by selling more than 100,000 copies in just 12 years after its initial publication. It won numerous awards, the most prestigious one being the 1996 Vayalar award. The book surpassed its 100th edition with more than 200,000 copies in about 24 years. Perumbadavam Sreedharan ( ml, പെരുമ്പടവം ശ്രീധരന്) (born 12 February 1938) is a Malayalam author from Kerala, India. He is former Chairman of Kerala Sahitya Akademi. He has written several novels and short stories. One of his best known novels is ''Oru Sankeerthanam Pole'' (1993) for which he won the Vayalar Award in 1996. He got Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel ''Ashtapadi''. In 2006, he was awarded the Malayattoor Award for his novel, ''Narayanam''. Born in the village of Perumpadavam, in Elanji Panchayath Piravom, Ernakulam district of Kerala, Perumpadavam (as he is often called) started his literary career by writing poetry. He later shifted to short stories and novels. Perumpadavam has also authored scripts for 12 Malayalam films.
