Raven
A raven is any of several larger-bodied bird species of the genus ''Corvus''. These species do not form a single taxonomic group within the genus. There is no consistent distinction between "crows" and "ravens", common names which are assigned to different species chiefly on the basis of their size. The largest raven species are the common raven and the thick-billed raven. Etymology The term "raven" originally referred to the common raven (''Corvus corax''), the type species of the genus ''Corvus'', which has a larger distribution than any other species of ''Corvus'', ranging over much of the Northern Hemisphere. Johannes Vares
Johannes Vares (pen name Barbarus or Vares-Barbarus – 29 November 1946) was an Estonian and Soviet poet, medical doctor, and politician. Vares was born in a farmer family in the village of Kiisa, near Viljandi, Estonia. He received secondary education at Pärnu Gymnasium, and in 1910–1914 studied medicine at the University of Kyiv. Vares served as a military physician in World War I, and after that as a military physician for the Estonian Army during the Estonian War of Independence (1918–1920). He was awarded the Estonian Cross of Liberty for the participation. In the 1920s, Vares started working as a medical doctor in Pärnu. He subsequently became a well-known poet as well as a radical socialist, using the pen name Johannes Barbarus. When Soviet troops occupied Estonia in June 1940, Andrei Zhdanov forced president Konstantin Päts to appoint Vares as prime minister of a communist-dominated puppet government. Maria Eulália Vares
Maria Eulália Vares is a Brazilian mathematical statistician and probability theorist who is known for her expertise in stochastic processes and large deviations theory. She is a professor of statistics in the Institute of Mathematics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, from 2006 to 2009 was the editor-in-chief of the journal ''Stochastic Processes and their Applications'', publisher by Elsevier for the Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability, and from 2015 to 2017 was the editor-in-chief of the Annals of Probability, published by the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. Vares graduated in 1975 from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. Sergo Vares (born on 14 September 1982 in Rakvere) is an Estonian actor. Vares graduated from Rakvere Gymnasium in 2001. In 2002, he enrolled at the University of Tartu to study journalism, but left to study acting at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under course instructor Priit Pedajas, graduating in 2006. Reijo Mäki
Reijo Juhani Mäki (born 12 October 1958 in Siikainen, Satakunta) is a Finnish writer of crime fiction. Mäki published his first novel ''Enkelipölyä'' in 1985. His most well-known character is private detective Jussi Vares who was first introduced in the novel ''Moukanpeli'' released in 1986. A total of 25 novels about Jussi Vares have been published to date (in addition to his other non-Vares books). All novels take place in the portuary city of Turku , and in its grim granite jail, Kakola prison (maximum security prison, abandoned in 2007, see http://abandonedplaces.livejournal.com/2589107.html). Suzanne Puanani Vares-Lum (born 1967) is the president of East–West Center in Honolulu, HI, and a former Major General in the United States Army.
