Abigail Varela
Abigail Varela (born February 9, 1948) is a Venezuelan visual artist. He is best known for bronze sculptures representing Pre-Columbian art, pre-Columbian of abstract feminine figures interpreted in modern style in poses that suggest motion. Career Varela began his art education under Japanese ceramist Hiroshi Kawagiri followed by courses at art schools in Caracas. Varela produces flat silhouetted large sculptures, evolving into classic cast bronzes with a polished dark finish. Other works are made in solid aluminum. Varela's favorite theme is feminity in bulky shapes that somehow manage to suggest lightness and movement. His shapes have been likened to those of the Venus of Willendorf. José Manuel "Conny" Varela Fernández (born February 13, 1954) is a Puerto Rican politician affiliated with the Popular Democratic Party (PPD). He has been a member of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives since 1997 representing District 32. Early years and studies Varela was born on February 13, 1954 in Cayey. He studied in Notre Dame College of Caguas and graduated from Miguel Meléndez Muñoz High School, where he received a medal for leadership. Varela completed a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Puerto Rico, graduating magna cum laude in 1974. Félix Varela y Morales (November 20, 1788 – February 18, 1853) was a Cuban Catholic priest and independence leader who is regarded as a notable figure in the Catholic Church in both his native Cuba and the United States, where he also served. Life Varela was born in Havana, Cuba, then still part of New Spain, and grew up in St. Augustine, Florida, the grandson of Lieutenant Bartolomé Morales, the commander of military forces in Spanish Florida, who was stationed there and who helped to raise Felix after the death of his mother in childbirth. Federico Nicolás Varela Escudero (born 7 May 1996) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Phoenix Rising FC in the USL Championship. Luís Nicolau Fagundes Varela (August 17, 1841 – February 18, 1875) was a Brazilian Romantic poet, adept of the "Ultra-Romanticism" movement. Edgar Jose Varela (born August 9, 1980) is an American professional baseball coach. He was the hitting coach for the Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2020 to 2021. Career Varela attended San Gabriel High School in San Gabriel, California. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 38th round of the 1998 MLB draft, but did not sign and attended Los Angeles City College and California State University, Long Beach.
