Vardar
The Vardar (; mk, , , ) or Axios () is the longest river in North Macedonia and the second longest river in Greece, in which it reaches the Aegean Sea at Thessaloniki. It is long, out of which are in Greece, and drains an area of around . The maximum depth of the river is . Etymology The origin of the name ''Vardar'' derives from Thracian ''Vardários''. It comes from Proto-Indo-European (PIE) *''(s)wordo-wori-'' ("black water"). It can be considered a translation or similar meaning of ''Axios'', which itself is Thracian for 'not-shining' from PIE *''n.-sk(e)i'' (cf. Avestan ''axšaēna'' ("dark-coloured")). Vardar Yenicesi
Giannitsa ( el, Γιαννιτσά , in English also Yannitsa, Yenitsa) is the largest city in the regional unit of Pella and the capital of the Pella municipality, in the region of Central Macedonia in northern Greece. The municipal unit Giannitsa has an area of 208.105 km2. Its population is 31,983 people (2011 census). It includes a few outlying villages (Mesiano, Melissi, Pentaplatanos, Archontiko, Ampelies and Damiano). The municipality Pella as a whole includes many villages and has 63,122 inhabitants. The city is located in the center of Macedonia between Mount Paiko and the plain of Giannitsa, and is the economic, commercial and industrial center of the Pella regional unit. European route E86 (Greek National Road 2) runs along the south of the city. Lower Vardar Dialect
The Solun-Voden dialect, Lower Vardar dialect, or Kukush-Voden dialect is a South Slavic dialect spoken in parts of the Greek periphery of Central Macedonia, and the vicinity of Gevgelija and Dojran in the Republic of North Macedonia. It has been treated as part of both Macedonian and Bulgarian dialectology. Dialect area The dialect is named after Slavic toponyms for the cities of Thessaloniki (Solun), Edessa (Voden) and Kilkis (Kukush), or after the river Vardar. ŽRK Vardar ( mk, ЖРК Вардар) is a Macedonian women's handball club from Skopje, North Macedonia. The team currently competes in the Macedonian women's First League of Handball, Women’s Regional Handball League and used to be a top competitor in the Women's EHF Champions League. History *The Beginning WHC Vardar was founded in 1961, as part of the Vardar Sports Club in Skopje, which had been founded in 1947. WHC Grafichar Skopje club was established in 1948, and it was the top quality team at the time. They won many titles including the last one in 1960 before the fusion. RK Vardar 1961 ( mk, РК Вардар 1961) is a professional handball club from Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. Vardar is the most successful handball team in the country, having won fifteen national League and Cup titles. Also, Vardar is the most successful team in the regional SEHA League having won five titles. The team has also won two EHF Champions League titles. KK Vardar ( mk, КК Вардар) is a basketball club based in Skopje, North Macedonia. Established in 1947, the team has won the Macedonian National League five times and the Macedonian Cup once. History On 20 July 1947, MSD Makedonija and ŽSD Pobeda merged into the newly-established Vardar Sports Association, forming a new club named KK Vardar. The Vardar Statistical Region ( mk, Вардарски Регион) is one of eight statistical regions of North Macedonia. Vardar, located in the central part of North Macedonia, borders Greece to the south. Ahmet Vardar (1937 – 25 February 2010) was a notable Turkish journalist and television presenter. Biography Vardar was born 1937 in Istanbul. He worked for many newspapers, the longest for the daily ''Sabah''. He served for many years as the general manager of ''Sabah'' News Agency. Vardar worked as a journalist for some fifty odd years. Though at first a sports reporter, and a legal correspondent, he later did work on the news management side at '' Günaydın'', ''Tan'', '' Zaman'', ''Sabah'' and ''Vatan''.
