Da Varano
The Da Varano was an Italian noble family who had an important role in the medieval and Renaissance history of central Italy, as rulers of Camerino and other lands in the Marche and Umbria. Overview The family is first mentioned in the 13th century with one Prontaguerra ("Ready-at-War") da Varano, a powerful Guelphs and Ghibellines, Guelph leader, who inaugurated the traditional appartenance of the family to that party. His descendant Gentile was also a Guelph leader in Camerino when the town was destroyed by Manfred of Sicily. In the aftermath of the Ghibelline defeat at the Battle of Benevento (1266), Gentile had the town rebuilt and he became its lord. He was made "Count of the Roman Campagna" by Pope Martin IV (1282), a title which was inherited by his son Rodolfo after Gentile's death two years later. Federico Varano (born 31 January 1995) is an Italian professional footballer who plays for Italian club Chieri. Club career Atalanta Born in Vigevano, Lombardy, Varano started his career at Lombard club Atalanta. He was part of the squad for the play-off round of 2013–14 Campionato Nazionale Primavera. On 16 July 2014 Varano graduated from their youth system and joined Serie C club Venezia, along with Simone Magnaghi. Michele Antonio Varano
Michele Antonio Varano (; born 13 July 1951) is an Italian criminal accused of being a member of the 'Ndrangheta, a Mafia-type organisation in Calabria. From 2000, he was on the Italian " most wanted list" for membership of a criminal organization. Varano has been accused (but not convicted) of tobacco smuggling and other crimes. The Italian authorities tried unsuccessfully over many years to have him extradited from other countries, but he eventually gave himself up to the authorities at Genoa in 2014. He is currently serving a prison sentence for identity card offences, while investigators consider bringing other charges. Camilla Battista da Varano O.S.C., (9 April 1458 – 31 May 1524), from Camerino, Italy, was an Italian princess and a Poor Clare nun and abbess. She is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. Early life Varano was born out of wedlock in Camerino, Macerata, in the Marche region of Italy, the daughter of noblewoman Cecchina di Maestro Giacomo and Giulio Cesare da Varano, the Duke of Camerino. She was raised by Giulio Cesare's wife, Giovanna Malatesta. Giovanni Maria da Varano (1481–1527) was an Italian statesman, and the duke of Camerino starting in 1515. He was the son of Giulio Cesare da Varano.
