Hymn
A hymn is a type of song, and partially synonymous with devotional song, specifically written for the purpose of adoration or prayer, and typically addressed to a deity or deities, or to a prominent figure or personification. The word ''hymn'' derives from Greek (''hymnos''), which means "a song of praise". A writer of hymns is known as a hymnist. The singing or composition of hymns is called hymnody. Collections of hymns are known as hymnals or hymn books. Hymns may or may not include instrumental accompaniment. Den Svenska Psalmboken 1986
('The Swedish hymnal – adopted by the 1986 Church Council') is the fourth official hymnal of the Church of Sweden. The process to create a new hymnal began in earnest in 1958 when Rune Pär Olofsson published a critique of the existing 1937 hymnal. The new hymnal was approved at the general conference of the Church of Sweden on August 29, 1986. Many hyms are shared with other denominations and movements, owing to a deliberate ecumenical effort.
