Vansbro2010 Start
Vansbro () is a locality in Dalarna and the seat of Vansbro Municipality, Dalarna County, Sweden. It had 2,026 inhabitants in 2010, out of a total municipal population of 7,000. The town is situated by the end of the rivulet Vanån (Van River), the main tributary of the Västerdal River. History The first time Vansbro was mentioned in writing was by Carl von Linné during early 18th century. The place have also been mentioned in different texts from the same era under the name - Wahnbro or Wansbro. The name is believed to stem from a bridge built across the Vanå river. The railway between Kristinehamn and Mora was inaugurated in 1890 and the Vansbro railway station was constructed. Industry Vansbros early industrial history was closely connected to timber and logging. Soon after the railway was built the first sawmill Danielssågen started. Kristinehamn is a locality and the seat of Kristinehamn Municipality, Värmland County, Sweden, with 17,839 inhabitants in 2010. Geography Kristinehamn is situated by the shores of lake Vänern where the small rivers ''Varnan'' and ''Löt'' drain into the lake. It has a harbour and is a railroad and road transportation center. Björn Nils Olof Skifs (; born 20 April 1947) is a Swedish singer, songwriter, actor, and screenwriter. Career Björn Skifs formed his first musical group, Slam Creepers, in 1962. Slam Creepers split in 1969 and Skifs went on to form a new band, Blåblus (a farmer's or workman's shirt (blus, blouse) made from blue (blå, blue) fabric - a pun (blues)) in 1972. As the lead singer of Blue Swede (another pun - blue + suede), the band had a No. 1 hit on ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in 1974 with a cover of Mark James's "Hooked on a Feeling". In Mourning is a melodic death metal band from Vansbro, Sweden. They are currently signed to Dalapop. They have released six full-length albums with their latest ''The Bleeding Veil'', released in November 2021. History Apart from their debut album, the band has published several self-released demos. Their debut album, ''Shrouded Divine'', released on 2 January 2008 by Aftermath Music, has received mostly favorable reviews, especially by European music websites and magazines. Gunde Anders Svan (born 12 January 1962) is a Swedish former cross-country skier and auto racing driver. During his cross-country skiing career he won a total of four gold, one silver and one bronze medals at the Winter Olympics. Vansbrosimningen or Vansbrosimmet is an annual open water swimming competition held in July in Vansbro, Dalarna, Sweden since 1950. The distance is 3,000 m, first 2,000 m in Vanån then 1,000 m in Västerdal River. It is part of ''En svensk klassiker'', the "Swedish Classic" which also includes crosscountry skiing (Vasaloppet, 90 kilometers), biking (Vätternrundan, 300 kilometers) and running (Lidingöloppet, 30 kilometers). Mora is a urban areas of Sweden, locality and the seat of Mora Municipality, Sweden, Mora Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 10,896 inhabitants in 2010. History There are signs of human activity in the surroundings of Mora dating from 4000 BC. The earliest found buildings in Mora are from the 7th century. Västerdalälven (literally ''West Dalälven, Dal River'') is a 300 km long river in Sweden that flows southeast through Dalarna. Its sources are Görälven and Fuluälven and the end point is Djurås, in the Municipalities of Sweden, municipality of Gagnef Municipality, Gagnef, where it connects with Österdalälven to form Dalälven.
