History Salem Railway Division is the newest division of the Southern Railway Zone of Indian Railways. It was carved out of the Palakkad railway division and Tiruchirappalli railway division. Tiruppur District is one of the 38 districts of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, formed in 22 February 2009. Dharapuram was the largest taluk by area in the district. Tiruppur railway station is a railway station serving the city of Tiruppur, or the textile city of India.The station under the jurisdiction of the Salem railway division. And it is a major railway station of the Southern Railway zone, one of the 17 Railway Zones of the Indian Railways. It is also known by its official code:TUP. Location and layout The Tiruppur railway station is located at the heart of the Tiruppur city, at close proximity to the Old Bus Station of the city. Coimbatore Junction railway station, also known as Kovai Junction railway station (station code: CBE), is the primary railway station serving Coimbatore city. History Train service in Coimbatore with construction of the Old_Coimbatore Railway Station at Podanur started on 18 July 1861, upon the construction of the Podanur–Madras line connecting Kerala and the west coast with the rest of India. Coimbatore lies on the Coimbatore–Shoranur broad gauge. Current Coimbatore Railway Junction was started as a halt station #Old_Coimbatore (Podanur) to Mettupalayam Branch line. It was built then opened on 1 February 1873, two months before MGR Chennai Central was opened as Madras Central. Until 1956, the Coimbatore Railway Division was functioning with Podanur as the headquarters.
