Vanja Drach
Vanja Drach (1 February 1932 – 6 September 2009) was a Croatian theatre and film actor. His film and television credits include '' H-8'', ''Lud, zbunjen, normalan'', ''Gospa'', ''Charuga'', '' Kapelski kresovi'', ''Nikola Tesla'', '' Svjedoci''. Between 1957 up to his retirement in 1998, he acted in the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, apart from the period 1975–81 when he was member of the troupe ''Teatar u gostima''. In 2005 he received the Vladimir Nazor Award for lifetime achievement in theatre. In 2005, Vanja Drach was operated for a tumor on his vocal cords, but eventually the cancer spread to his lungs. The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb ( hr, Hrvatsko narodno kazalište u Zagrebu), commonly referred to as HNK Zagreb, is a theatre, opera and ballet house located in Zagreb. Overview The theatre evolved out of the first city theatre opened in 1834 housed in the present-day Old City Hall. The theatre was first established as the ''Croatian National Theatre'' in 1860, and in 1861 it gained government support putting it on par with many other European national theatres. In 1870 an opera company was added to the theatre and in 1895 it moved to the new purpose-built building on Republic of Croatia Square in Zagreb's Lower Town, where it is based today. The University Hospital Centre (sometimes also Clinical Hospital Centre, hr, Klinički bolnički centar Zagreb, KBC) in Zagreb, Croatia, is the largest hospital in Croatia and the teaching hospital of the University of Zagreb. The Vladimir Nazor Award ( hr, Nagrada Vladimir Nazor) is a Croatian prize for arts and culture established in 1959 and awarded every year by the Ministry of Culture. Named after the writer Vladimir Nazor (1876–1949), the prize is awarded to Croatian artists for achievements in six different fields of art and culture, and in each category every year two separate prizes are awarded - one for life achievement (for overall contributions to their respective field), and another one, commonly referred to as the "annual award", for a single piece of outstanding work in the field created over the previous 12 months. ''Witnesses'' ( hr, Svjedoci) is a Croatian drama film directed by Vinko Brešan. It was released in 2003. Synopsis The plot of the movie is centered in the city of Karlovac in 1992, during the Croatian War of Independence. The front lines, where Croatian and Serbian forces fight each other, lie near the city. Meanwhile, in the city of Karlovac, a Serbian civilian Vasić is murdered. The story follows the local police officer Barbir (Dražen Kühn), who tries to solve the murder in spite of ethnic hatred and war revolving nearby.
