Vanguarda Paulistana
Vanguarda Paulista, also named Vanguarda Paulistana (''São Paulo Avant-garde)'' was the name given to a Brazilian cultural movement which happened in São Paulo between 1979 and 1985, at the final years of the Brazilian military dictatorship. The moniker was given by city's journalists and music critics, by its avant-garde aspect and referring to one of the venues where the artists performed: the Teatro Lira Paulistana, in the neighborhood of Pinheiros, from which a record label and publishing house were also spun. Vanguarda Paulista musicians had different styles, but there were unifying characteristics among some of them: a spoken word-like singing style, the blending of classical and popular elements, humorous lyrics laden with social criticism, and an independent, do-it-yourself spirit. Itamar Assumpção
Itamar Assumpção (September 13, 1949 – June 12, 2003) was a Brazilian songwriter and composer who was born in Tietê, a city in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. Assumpção built a strong reputation in the Brazilian independent and alternative music scenes during the 1980s and 1990s, particularly in his home state of São Paulo. Patife Band ("patife" is a word in Portuguese meaning "stooge" or "knucklehead") is a Brazilian post-punk band formed in São Paulo in 1983 by Paulo Barnabé, initially under the name Paulo Patife Band. Ná Ozzetti
Maria Cristina Ozzetti, known as Ná Ozzetti, (born 12 December 1958 ) is a Brazilian singer and composer. She has been associated with the Vanguarda Paulista movement, having been a vocalist for the band Rumo before following a solo career. Biography In her childhood, Ná Ozzetti learned to play the piano. After her graduation as a visual artist, she began her musical career as a singer of the group RUMO in the late 1970s, with whom she recorded a total of seven records. In 1988 her first album, ''Ná Ozzetti'', was released. At the end of the 1980s, she was a member of Itamar Assumpção's ensemble on various tours in Europe. Her second album Ná was arranged to a large extent by her brother Dante Ozzetti. In 1996 her CD ''Love Lee Rita'' was released, a tribute to the Brazilian singer Rita Lee. A cultural movement is a change in the way a number of different disciplines approach their work. This embodies all art forms, the sciences, and philosophies. Historically, different nations or regions of the world have gone through their own independent sequence of movements in culture, but as world communications have accelerated this geographical distinction has become less distinct. When cultural movements go through revolutions from one to the next, genres tend to get attacked and mixed up, and often new genres are generated and old ones fade. Elza Soares
Elza da Conceição Soares ( née Gomes; 23 June 1930 – 20 January 2022), known professionally as Elza Soares (), was a Brazilian samba singer. In 1999, she was named Singer of the Millennium along with Tina Turner by BBC Radio. Elza was deemed dangerous by the Military dictatorship in Brazil (1964–1985), and in 1970 her house in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro, was machine-gunned by regime agents. Inside were her partner Garrincha and their children. The living room, where the young children were, was destroyed by the blasts. She and Garrincha had to flee to Italy, where they were received by Chico Buarque de Hollanda also in exile. Spoken word refers to an oral poetic performance art that is based mainly on the poem as well as the performer's aesthetic qualities. It is a late 20th century continuation of an ancient oral artistic tradition that focuses on the aesthetics of recitation and word play, such as the performer's live intonation and voice inflection. Spoken word is a "catchall" term that includes any kind of poetry recited aloud, including poetry readings, poetry slams, jazz poetry, and hip hop music, and can include comedy routines and prose monologues. Unlike written poetry, the poetic text takes its quality less from the visual aesthetics on a page, but depends more on phonaesthetics, or the aesthetics of sound.
