Henry Vane The Younger
Sir Henry Vane (baptised 26 March 161314 June 1662), often referred to as Harry Vane and Henry Vane the Younger to distinguish him from his father, Henry Vane the Elder, was an English politician, statesman, and colonial governor. He was briefly present in North America, serving one term as the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and supported the creation of Roger Williams' Rhode Island Colony and Harvard College. A proponent of religious tolerance, as governor, he defended Anne HutchinsonMoore, p. 318 and her right to teach religious topics in her home which put him in direct conflict with the Puritan leaders in the Massachusetts Colony. William Morgan Fletcher-Vane, 1st Baron Inglewood, TD (12 April 1909 – 22 June 1989), was a British Conservative Party politician. Early life Inglewood was the son of Lieutenant-Colonel the Hon. William Lyonel Vane, a descendant of Gilbert Vane, 2nd Baron Barnard. His uncle Henry de Vere Vane had succeeded as ninth Baron Barnard in 1891 on the death of his distant relative Harry George Powlett, 4th Duke of Cleveland and 8th Baron Barnard. Mark Sutton Vane is an English architectural lighting designer. Sutton Vane was born in London, England, and studied architecture at the University of Westminster. He then started work at the Laserium in the London Planetarium. Here he used a visual synthesiser to perform laser light shows to music. He created new shows for musicians such as Kate Bush and Jean Michel Jarre. In 1989, Sutton Vane moved into architectural lighting design. Kathleen (Kitty) Airini Vane (née Mair; 22 January 1891 – 1965) was a New Zealand painter who specialised in watercolours and tempera landscape paintings. Her work is included in the collections of Whangārei Museum and Dunedin Public Art Gallery. Two portraits of Vane are in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London. Biography Vane was born in Wainuiomata, the daughter of Gilbert Mair and Eleanor Katherine (née Sperry) Mair. She had an older brother, John Gilbert, who died in childhood. Life He was the son of the 1st Earl of Darlington and educated at Christ Church, Oxford, graduating with a MA on 3 July 1749. He joined the Army as an Ensign in the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards in 1745. He was subsequently promoted lieutenant and captain, and went to the 2nd Regiment of Foot Guards as captain and lieutenant-colonel on 6 February 1750.
