Vanda Wesenhagen
Vanda Wesenhagen (born 1957) is a former Dutch international cricketer who represented the Dutch national team between 1981 and 1990, including at the 1988 World Cup. She played as a middle-order batsman and occasional medium-pace bowler. Wesenhagen made her international debut for the Netherlands at the 1981 Engeland tour, and 1983 Centenary Tournament in Utrecht, playing against Denmark. She opened the bowling with Chantal Grevers, and came in fourth in the batting order. In a three-day match against Ireland in 1987 (an unofficial Test), Wesenhagen was the leading run-scorer in her team's first innings, making 12 out of a team total of 55. She was promoted to open the batting in the second innings, but made only eight runs as the Netherlands lost by an innings and 19 runs. Selected in the Dutch squad for the 1988 World Cup in Australia, Wesenhagen played in six of her team's eight matches – her first One Day International (ODI) appearances. Women's One Day International
Women's One Day International (WODI) is the limited overs form of women's cricket. Matches are scheduled for 50 overs, equivalent to the men's game. The first women's ODIs were played in 1973, as part of the first Women's World Cup which was held in England. The first ODI saw the hosts beat an International XI. The 1,000th women's ODI took place between South Africa and New Zealand on 13 October 2016. WODI status is determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and was restricted to full members of the ICC. In May 2022, the ICC awarded WODI status to five more teams. The 1990 Women's European Cricket Cup was an international cricket tournament held in England from 18 to 22 July 1990. It was the second edition of the Women's European Championship, and all matches at the tournament held One Day International (ODI) status. Four teams participated, with the hosts, England, joined by the three other European members of the International Women's Cricket Council (IWCC) – Denmark, Ireland, and the Netherlands. A round-robin format was used, with the top teams proceeding to the final. England was undefeated in the round-robin stage and beat Ireland by 65 runs in the final, winning the championship for a second consecutive time. England's Wendy Watson led the tournament in runs for a second year running, while Ireland's Susan Bray was the leading wicket-taker. Anita Van Lier
Anita van Lier (married name Beecheno-van Lier; born 19 April 1952) is a Dutch former international cricketer who represented the Dutch national team between 1978 and 1993, including as captain for a number of years. Van Lier made her debut for the Netherlands in 1978, on a tour of England. Her first international appearances came at the 1983 Centenary Tournament in Utrecht (featuring Denmark and Ireland), by which time she had been appointed captain. Women's Test Cricket
Women's Test cricket is the longest format of women's cricket and is the female equivalent to men's Test cricket. Matches comprise four-innings and are held over a maximum of four days between two of the leading cricketing nations. The rules governing the format differ little from those for the men's game, with differences generally being technicalities surrounding umpiring and field size. The first women's Test match was played by England women and Australia women in December 1934, a three-day contest held in Brisbane which England won by nine wickets. A total of 144 Women's Test matches have been played. Far fewer matches are played each year in favour of Women's One Day Internationals and Women's Twenty20 Internationals, with the international calendar revolving around the shorter formats of the game. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Ireland Women's Cricket Team
The Ireland women's cricket team represents Ireland in international women's cricket. Cricket in Ireland is governed by Cricket Ireland and organised on an All-Ireland basis, meaning the Irish women's team represents both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Ireland made its One-Day International (ODI) debut in 1987, against Australia, and the following year played at the 1988 World Cup, making the first of five appearances at the tournament.
