Van Zuylen van Nijevelt ( is a Nobility, noble family from the region of Rotterdam, town and region where several members of the family played a significant role. The head of the family is the Count van Zuylen van Nijevelt; the rest of the family bears the title baron or baroness. This family must not be confused with the old noble family from Utrecht, Van Zuylen van Nievelt Origins During the 19th century members of this family tried to prove that they were descendants of the Utrecht noble family. This has later been found impossible to prove. Their genealogy starts with a merchant in hosiery trade Van Zuylen. Later they added 'Van Nijevelt' at the time when they had become affluent and accomplished important duties in Rotterdam. In 1848 they added "Van De Weyer", because of a familial marriage. Pieter Hendrik Van Zuylen Van Nijevelt
Pieter Hendrik van Zuylen van Nijevelt (1 July 1782 in Kampen – 25 January 1825 in Utrecht) was a Dutch count and baron who served as a general in the French and Dutch armies during the Napoleonic era and later. He was present at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 as chief of staff of the 2nd Dutch Division. Pieter Hendrik's son Julius van Zuylen van Nijevelt (1819–1894), born in Luxembourg, inherited his titles of count and baron. He served as prime minister of the Netherlands from 1866 to 1868. Canting arms are heraldic bearings that represent the bearer's name (or, less often, some attribute or function) in a visual pun or rebus. Duinrell is an amusement park situated in Wassenaar, Netherlands. Its main character is Rick the Frog. It also contains a caravan park and a camp-site. Julius Philip Jacob Adriaan, Count van Zuylen van Nijevelt (19 August 1819 – 1 July 1894) was a conservative Dutch politician. From 1855 till 1860 he served as Minister Resident in Istanbul, during which time he offered The Union Church of Istanbul to use the Dutch Chapel. Van Zuylen van Nijevelt served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands (chairman of the Council of Ministers) from 1866 to 1868. He also served as minister of Foreign Affairs from 1860 to 1861, and again from 1866 tot 1868. He married in Scotland and had three sons and two daughters. Philip (or Philippus) Julius van Zuylen van Nijevelt (Rotterdam, 5 Januari 1743 – Utrecht, 20 February 1826) was a Dutch general, nobleman and politician. He was appointed Marshal of Holland in the Kingdom of Holland and served as French senator following the annexation of Holland by the Napoleonic Empire. Van Zuylen van Nijevelt was also an amateur scientist and became known for his treatise on chess. Jacob Pieter Pompejus, Baron van Zuylen van Nijevelt (29 June 1816 – 4 November 1890) was a Dutch politician who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands from 1852 to 1853, and again in 1861. Van Zuylen van Nievelt is an old noble Dutch family originating from Utrecht. History Utrecht The family was already noble from earliest times ("Uradel"). The first known ancestor is the knight Steven van Zulen, who early in the 13th century settled in Utrecht. His descendants married into leading families and built the castle called '' Zuylen''. They later joined ''Nievelt'' to their family name, being the name of an estate and castle ' ("new field") they had acquired. Their main fortune was a result of their activities in impoldering morasses. From the 19th century to the present, the name of the family was written as ''Van Zuylen van Nievelt''. Members received recognition of nobility in 1814 and the title of baron was confirmed in 1822. Several members of the family lived in Barneveld where they built a castle named Schaffelaar.
