Netty Van Hoorn
Netty van Hoorn (born 14 June 1951) is a Dutch film director and producer who has won several awards for her work. Biography Van Hoorn was born in Amsterdam on 14 June 1951. She graduated in 1983 at the Dutch Film and Television Academy. She has directed many documentaries, commercials and theater plays. In the documentary ''De Droomfabriek'' (the Dream Factory, 2006) Netty van Hoorn depicts the passion of the students and the teachers at the Havo voor Muziek en Dans (Academy for Music and Dance) in Rotterdam and the large and small dramas of their lives in a school that is unique in the Netherlands. ''t Wapen van Hoorn'' ( Dutch for "The Arms of Hoorn") was a 17th-century Dutch East India Company fluyt with a tonnage between 400 and 600, built in the Dutch Republic in 1619. During its second voyage it grounded on the west coast of Australia, making it about the tenth ship to make landfall on Australian soil, and following just a few weeks earlier only the second ship to be shipwrecked in Australian waters, albeit temporarily. Voyages ''t Wapen van Hoorn'' departed Texel for Batavia, capital of the Dutch East Indies, on 27 December 1619, under the command of Roelof Pietersz. Philip de Montmorency (ca. 1524 – 5 June 1568 in Brussels), also known as Count of Horn, ''Horne'', ''Hoorne'' or ''Hoorn'', was a victim of the Inquisition in the Spanish Netherlands. Nicholas van Hoorn (c. 1635 in Vlissingen – buried 24 June 1683, in Isla Mujeres) was a merchant sailor, privateer and pirate. He was born in the Netherlands and died near Veracruz after being wounded on the Isla de Sacrificios. Joan Van Hoorn
Joan van Hoorn (1653–1711) was Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies from 1704 until 1709. Joan (or Johan) van Hoorn was born on 16 November 1653, son to the wealthy Amsterdam gunpowder manufacturer, Pieter Janszn van Hoorn and his wife Sara Bessels, a grandchild of Gerard Reynst. As the gunpowder trade was no longer doing so well, his influential friends got him named as Counsellor-extraordinary (''Raad extraordinair'') to the Dutch Council of the Indies.
