Isabella Henriette Van Eeghen
Isabella Henriette van Eeghen (3 February 1913 – 26 November 1996), usually cited as I. H. van Eeghen, was a Dutch historian who worked for the Stadsarchief Amsterdam. Early life and education Van Eeghen was born in Amsterdam as the daughter of the banker Christiaan Pieter van Eeghen in an Amsterdam canal mansion on 497 Herengracht that today is known as the KattenKabinet. Her father and grandfather were directors of Van Eeghen & Co. a bank active on the Herengracht since the 17th-century. Today, what remains of the firm is part of Bank Oyens & Van Eeghen. The young Isa was therefore quite wealthy, and determined to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather, also called Christiaan Pieter van Eeghen, who in his free time set up the Vondelpark and was responsible for various improvements to the Van der Hoop museum in 1854, the forerunner of the Rijksmuseum. Esmée Van Eeghen
Esmée Adrienne van Eeghen (7 July 1918 - 7 September 1944) was a Dutch resistance fighter in World War II. Van Eeghen is controversial because she fell in love with a German officer, but in spite of this played a significant role in the resistance, especially in Friesland, a role that would ultimately be fatal for her, due to her turbulent love life. The character Rachel Stein from the 2006 film '' Black Book'' was based on the life of van Eeghen. Early life Esmée van Eeghen was born in Amsterdam on 7 July 1918. Her parents were Reginald van Eeghen (1889-1936), director of the Amstel Brewery, and Minette Adrienne van Lennep (1892-1975), better known as Miesje van Lennep. Esmée had a brother, Dave, who was two years her junior. She had a happy, sheltered childhood, even though her father left for America when she was eight after his divorce and died in San Francisco in 1936. Hester van Eeghen (11 November 1958 – 8 April 2021) was a Dutch designer of leather bags, wallets and accessories. Life Hester van Eeghen was born in Amsterdam, the youngest of five children. Her family has been involved in the arts in The Netherlands in one way or another since the 17th century. She studied literature at the University of Amsterdam, and soon got involved with theatre, acting, and producing musicals. It was during that time she also started designing bags and working with leather. She learned the technical craft of leather construction by working with a suitcase designer who encouraged her to perfect the smallest details. She scraped together money to buy small pieces of leather, and created bags, one by one, which she sold in local street markets. With each bag she sold she would buy more leather, make more bags, and so on, until she finally was able to open her shop at 37 Hartenstraat.
